Techniques to speed up your IELTS writing tasks
In IELTS, time management is very important especially in Reading and Writing module. You have to be very fast for reading and locating the answers in reading test and while writing you should write the content quickly in order to meet the deadline. As you know that in task 1 of IELTS writing the word limit is 150 words and for task 2 it is 250 words and if you get short from this limit your scores will be deducted in the ‘Task Achievement’ category. Before exploring the techniques lets discuss the most common mistake committed by the IELTS aspirants. The mistake that nearly every student do is not planning for the task as they thing it is just the wastage of time.
If you are one of them than you must change your habit as this is the major obstacle that is decreasing your speed. If you don’t plan things before starting than you will have to do the processing while writing and this is really confusing and time consuming as you have to think and write at the same time. Doing both things make the candidate slow and even the chances of doing mistakes raises.
On the other hand, if you have planned your essay before by making a few simple bullet point notes of your thoughts then during writing you just need to follow them. This process helps you to focus totally on the writing and you don’t get diverted consequently speeding you up.

– First of all, choose an easy or some familiar topic on which you can write a long content.

– The next step is to count your written words. For the next time prepare yourself to write more than this. This will give you a new goal every time, boost your confidence and you can keep an eye on your progress.
– In the end do proof reading and go to your teacher for evaluation.
– Repeat this practice with different topics increase your time limit after very 3-4 sessions and you will see that your speed is increasing.
Translation hurdle
– It is often seen that students start translating the content and lose their speed. So it is highly recommended that you should not translate the content in your mother tongue.
– If you pick a word or sentence and start translating it in your native language to write in the answer it will probably take long time in this process.
– Moreover, the translations done in this manner are often inaccurate. So it’s better to guess a word from its context or using synonyms and paraphrasing in English rather than reverting to your own native language.
– As I have already discussed that many students thing that planning in the beginning of the task is just wastage of time and this practice will be an obstacle to finish their task in time.
