IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You have a friend who has always liked the car you currently drive. Now you have decided to sell the car. You think your friend might be interested in buying it.

Write a letter to this friend.

In your letter,

– say why you want to sell your car

– describe the condition of the car

– invite the friend to come and see the car himself/herself someday

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear J,

I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to let you know that I’ve made the decision to sell my car, and I immediately thought of you because I remember how much you’ve always liked it.

The main reason I’m selling it is that I’m planning to upgrade to a newer model. It’s a bit of a change for me, but I feel it’s time for something fresh. I thought you might be interested in buying my current car, as it’s still in great condition and has been very reliable over the years.

The car is a [Car Make and Model], and it has been well-maintained with regular servicing. There are only a few minor cosmetic marks, but nothing that affects its performance. It runs smoothly, the interior is clean, and I’ve recently replaced the tires and brakes. It’s been a joy to drive, and I think you’ll really like it.
