Tips for a Successful Description

1. Be Observant

– Spend a few seconds analyzing the image. Identify key elements that stand out and take mental notes of colors, shapes, and objects.

2. Use Descriptive Language

– Incorporate adjectives and adverbs to paint a vivid picture. Instead of saying “a tree,” you might say “a tall, leafy oak tree.”

3. Stay Objective

– Focus on describing what you see without inserting personal opinions or feelings too early in the description. Save the analysis for later.

4. Organize Logically

– Present details in a logical order. You could describe from left to right, top to bottom, or categorize elements by type (e.g., people, objects).

5. Practice Vocabulary

– Familiarize yourself with vocabulary relevant to various types of images. Words that describe trends (increase, decrease, fluctuation) are useful for graphs, while words like “bustling,” “serene,” or “chaotic” can apply to photographs.
