Some people believe that the academic success of students depends on good teachers at schools. Others think that it depends on the attitude and determination of the students.
Discuss both these views and give your opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
The debate over whether students’ academic success is primarily determined by good teachers or by their own attitude and determination remains a topic of discussion. Some argue that effective teachers play a crucial role in shaping students’ knowledge and skills, while others believe that personal motivation is the key factor in achieving academic excellence.
On one hand, skilled and dedicated teachers provide students with structured learning, guidance, and motivation. They use effective teaching methods to make complex concepts easier to understand and create an engaging learning environment. Moreover, teachers can inspire students, identify their weaknesses, and offer personalized support to improve their performance. For instance, in many high-achieving schools, the presence of highly qualified teachers has been linked to better student outcomes.
On the other hand, students’ own attitude and determination significantly influence their academic performance. Even with excellent teachers, a student who lacks interest or motivation may struggle to succeed. Self-discipline, perseverance, and a proactive approach to learning often determine how well a student performs. For example, there are many cases of self-driven individuals who have excelled academically despite limited access to quality education. This suggests that a student’s willingness to learn and work hard is a fundamental factor in success.
In my opinion, both aspects are important, but student determination plays a more decisive role. While good teachers can provide guidance and support, ultimately, it is the students’ own effort, dedication, and willingness to learn that lead to academic success.
