IELTS Writing Task 2

In today’s media-driven world, many celebrities are renowned more for their luxurious lifestyles and appearance than for their professional accomplishments. I largely agree with the view that this trend sets a poor example for young people.

Firstly, celebrities who are admired solely for their glamour or wealth often promote unrealistic standards. Social media is flooded with posts showing extravagant vacations, expensive fashion, and flawless appearances, leading young followers to believe that success is measured by material possessions rather than hard work. This can result in low self-esteem and misplaced priorities among impressionable children.

Moreover, the behavior of some celebrities is not always responsible or admirable. Instances of reckless partying, controversial statements, or superficial brand promotions often overshadow genuine talent or achievements. When these individuals become role models, children may adopt similar values, believing fame can be attained without meaningful contribution.

However, it is also important to acknowledge that not all celebrities fit this stereotype. Many well-known figures use their fame to raise awareness about social issues, support charitable causes, or inspire through their dedication and skill. These individuals can indeed be positive role models.

In conclusion, while there are exceptions, the increasing trend of glorifying celebrities for wealth and style rather than substance often sends the wrong message to young people. Society should encourage admiration for talent, effort, and integrity rather than fame without purpose.
