SAMPLE ANSWER
One positive change that I’ve witnessed in my neighborhood is the transformation of a rundown park into a modern community space. This change took place about a year ago, and it was the result of local government initiatives aimed at improving public spaces for residents, especially families with children.
The park was previously an underused and poorly maintained area with broken benches, overgrown grass, and scattered litter. However, it has now been completely revitalized with new playground equipment, a walking path, outdoor exercise equipment, well-kept gardens, and even a small café. The park also has new lighting and seating areas for people to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

The renovation began around twelve months ago, and it was part of a broader effort to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The local authorities identified that a lack of green spaces was contributing to low community engagement and that the park could be a valuable asset if revitalized. The residents had also been voicing concerns for years about the park’s poor condition, which made it unsafe and unattractive.
The park has had a significant positive impact on the neighborhood. It has become a popular meeting point for families, children, and older people. The playground is now always filled with children playing, and the walking path encourages people to exercise. The café has also become a social hub, where people can relax and chat. Overall, the park has improved social interactions, created a safer environment, and promoted a healthier lifestyle.
Personally, I feel very positive about the change. It’s been wonderful to see how the park has become a place where people from different walks of life can come together. I often visit the park myself, whether for a jog or just to sit and enjoy the scenery. The transformation has made the neighborhood feel more vibrant, and it’s reassuring to see that the local government is investing in public spaces for the well-being of residents.

In the long term, this change will likely have several benefits for the neighborhood. The park will continue to encourage physical activity, which can contribute to better health outcomes for residents. Additionally, as a gathering space, the park will foster a stronger sense of community and help combat social isolation. It may also increase property values in the area, as people are generally more inclined to live in neighborhoods with accessible green spaces. Finally, the park’s rejuvenation might attract more visitors, boosting local businesses in the surrounding area.
PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Do you think it’s important for cities to have parks? Why?
Yes, parks are crucial for cities because they provide green spaces for relaxation and recreation. They contribute to physical and mental well-being, offer a break from urban life, and can foster a sense of community. Parks also help improve air quality and provide habitats for local wildlife.
IELTS Speaking Test
What kinds of changes do you think should be made to improve public parks?
In addition to improving facilities like playgrounds and seating areas, I think it’s important to make parks accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. More environmentally sustainable features, like water-saving irrigation systems and native plants, should also be incorporated. Finally, creating spaces for community activities such as outdoor yoga, art, or even small markets would increase engagement.
Do you think local communities should be involved in such changes?
Absolutely. When local communities are involved in the decision-making process, the changes made are more likely to reflect the needs and preferences of the people who will use the space. Community input can also generate a sense of ownership, which encourages people to take better care of the space. Involving the community helps ensure that improvements are practical and widely appreciated.
IELTS Speaking Test
Have you noticed any other changes in your neighborhood?
Yes, apart from the park, I’ve noticed that more bicycle lanes and pedestrian paths have been created in recent months, making the neighborhood more walkable and bike-friendly. It’s great to see the area becoming more sustainable and safe for people who prefer non-motorized forms of transport.
