IELTS Speaking Test
Do you like (to learn about) history?
Yes, I am a big fan of reading historical stories. When I was a little boy, I always took some historical books from my father’s bookshelf and read the historical events. I feel that history not only can cultivate my mental development, but also give me a better picture of human society.
What historical event do you find most interesting?
Personally I am fond of the Battle of Red Cliffs happened in the early period of Three Kingdoms, which was a decisive battle at the end of the Han Dynasty. It was also the typical battle in Chinese history renowned for the fewer and weaker defeating the more and stronger.
Do you think history is important?
Yes, the main factor is that like our native language, history forms a cultural identity and keeps a unique record of country, and also we can learn the experiences from history to correct our current actions.

Do you like to watch programmes on TV about history?
Yes, I enjoy watching some documentaries about history on TV because I can see a lot of video materials that cannot be seen in the textbooks. I always watch them at home during my time off with my son to learn something about history.
Do you think you can really learn history from films and TV programmes?
I don’t feel that watching the current TV series can make you be aware of the history, you know, TV programmes are more engaging than books, however the true historical events in most of the TV series have been distorted by the producers to cater for the audience. It’s really shame as the young people will misunderstand the history by these irresponsible productions.

Online videos have become an integral part of our lives, especially after the coronavirus pandemic, because that was the time when most of the world started learning from platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
I’m fascinated with them, and recently, I watched a video in which I learned something new. I watched it last Sunday, and I watched it in the comforts of my home. So, this video was related to the concept of mindfulness.
This concept of mindfulness is fundamental because, as far as human beings are concerned, most of them indulge in overthinking, and the reason for overthinking is that they focus more on what happened in the past and what lies in the future. So the past is gone, and the future is uncertain, but they spend a sizable portion of their time thinking about the past and future.
IELTS Speaking Test
On the contrary, the concept of mindfulness digs deep into the present. So it says you need not think about the past because it is gone. You can take some inspiration from it. You can learn from mistakes. That is the relevance of the past because whatever happened in the past won’t happen again, more or less, and as far as the future is concerned, that is always uncertain.
So the situation cannot go in your favour, however hard you try. A small government policy and climate change could wreak havoc with your plans. So, focusing on the present is very important because two scenarios happen if you take care of the present.

I watched it. I was going through a rough patch in my life because I was thinking more about the past and future. Instead, I was very much worried about the future. So, after watching this video, there was a paradigm shift in my thinking.
I started focusing on the present. I’ve learned from it that if you focus on your present, your future will take care of itself. While focusing on the present, you do not think much about the past because, at one point, our brain can think about one thing.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Do you think online learning will replace face-to-face learning?
Online learning will replace face-to-face learning, but only in specific domains; it is feasible to get the same quality from online learning as we get from face-to-face learning. However, face-to-face learning will remain relevant for various domains, and online learning will not be able to take its place. For example, teaching music to someone is very difficult in online learning whereas face-to-face learning is relatively easy.”
What are the advantages of online learning?
There are numerous advantages of online learning. First and foremost, it’s straightforward. That means you need internet connectivity and can attend classes from any corner of the world.
The second advantage is that there is no space constraint. When there is face-to-face learning, a particular number of students can be accommodated depending on the classroom. However, in online education, this is fine. A large number of students can be included in one class.
Thirdly, it’s good for the environment because, for face-to-face learning, the teachers need to travel, the students need to travel, they need to assemble in one place, and a lot of petrol is burned. But in the case of online learning, you stay at home and do not burn petrol, and there’s less traffic congestion on the roads. So overall, it is good for the environment.

Why are so many young people obsessed with short videos?
The reason young people are obsessed with short videos is instant gratification. So these days, youngsters are becoming impatient, and they do not have the patience to watch long videos. They want short content because that can give them.
Do you think people spend too much time watching short videos, and why?
Yes, people spend too much time watching short videos for two or three reasons. People have less time at their disposal, so watching long videos makes them waste too much time on that. That’s why they get into short videos. But they spend more time on that because short videos are addictive, and people watch them for hours. Another reason for watching short videos is instant gratification. People get immediate satisfaction from that, which is another reason.
