General Writing Task 1
You are due to start a new job next week but you will not be able to because you have some problems.
Write a letter to your new employer. In your letter:
- explain your situation
- describe your problems
- tell him/her when you think you can start.
Sample Answer:-
Dear Ms Barnes,
I am writing concerning the position of Assistant Office Manager that I am due to begin next Monday. However, a problem has arisen.
As you know, I currently work for my uncle’s food-packing business, and you will remember from my interview that I have gained valuable experience there.
Unfortunately, he has had to go into hospital for an operation, leaving my aunt in charge of both the home and the business. She has asked me, as this is a particularly
busy time of year, to stay on and help her with the running of the office.
I realise this will be inconvenient to you, but very much hope that, given the circumstances, you would be prepared to allow me to take up my position with you two
weeks later than planned.
I would like to emphasise that I remain very keen to work with you, and that I will be gaining further useful experience during this time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
John Forbes
Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-
Tourism is encouraged in many countries. Does tourism bring more advantages or disadvantages to a country.
Model Answer:-
I feel that tourism has more advantages than disadvantages for any country. Tourism is an industry that contributes to the economy of a country. It not only brings foreign exchange to a country but also creates awareness about the culture of a region. There are several countries that spend money on advertising and marketing because they have realized the importance of creating a new source of income.
Nations like Thailand, Mauritius and Bali are highly dependent on tourism and are tourist friendly nations as well. There are many advantages to encouraging tourism in a country. It can help a nation open new streams of income. The hospitality industry, the transport industry and commodities market are some sections in the society that will benefit immensely.
The locals will find new opportunities for employment and will also be able to exchange culture with visitors from other nations. Tourism will also help educate visitors from other countries about the local heritage and history. The disadvantages of encouraging tourism in a country can be unchecked immigration, illegal trading of goods and services and the increase in crime rate against foreigners.
All of these limitations can be dealt with effectively if the government makes tourism development a part of their plan and standardizes certain processes. Educating the locals and building effective transport systems within and outside a city can help combat crime rates against tourists. If tourism is regulated well within a country, it can help in the progress of a nation and its citizens.
IELTS Speaking Full Interview:-
PART – 1 Intro Part
What is your full name?
My name is Balsirat Bansal.
How may I address you?
Well, you may call me Balsirat instead of calling by my full name.
What is the name of your home town?
I am a dweller of rural area named as Kokri.
Are you working or student?
I am a student as I have recently completed my senior secondary education.
Let’s tall about Introductory Part
Your Introductory part will be based upon “SPORTS”
Do you like to watch sports on TV?
Not at all! I despise (hate) it. I get extremely bored and disinterested. I usually try to avoid watching sports on TV at all costs unless it’s an exciting event, like the World Cup or Super Bowl. In that case, I go for the social event rather than the game itself.
Do you play any sports?
Not anymore. I was an avid (enthusiastic) swimmer as a child, but I gave that up after high school, as it was quite time-consuming. Nowadays, I enjoy going to the gym, running around the lake by my house, and going on mountain treks. I’m not sure if these are considered sports, but I’m really into physical activity.
Which is the popular sports in your country?
Soccer of course! As soccer is the sport of the world, that would be number one. People go wild when our team wins a game- they even drive around waving flags, blocking off the streets! Apart from this, many people enjoy playing tennis and doing martial arts.
Who is your favorite sports star?
As I’m not a big sports fan, I don’t really have one. However, I think I may like Cristiano Ronaldo. Although I don’t know anything about him or his athletic abilities, I think I’ve always been drawn to him because of his looks.
What kinds of sports would you like to try in the future?
I’m really intrigued by soccer. I think it’s something that can really connect people, as well as is good cardiovascular and coordination activity. Actually, I wish I had gotten into it as a child. I think it would be interesting to join a league in my city.
PART – 2 Cue Card
Describe a bicycle/motorbike/car trip that is interesting
You should say:
- Where you would like to go
- How you would like to go there
- Who you would like to go with
- And explain why you would like to go there by car, motorbike or bike
Band 8.0 Sample Answer:
There is a thing that troubles me more often than not when living in my country is the majority of people are riding motorbikes rather than cars. As a result, most people don’t know how to drive a car, I included, which also itches me since I have always wanted to take a road trip across the country. A road trip by car from the south to the north would be tough, and adventurous even, due to hundreds of marvelous destinations are awaiting to be explored. However, it is worth to take risk and step out of your comfort zone to truly experience what life has to offer when your legs can still drag you rather than to regret in your later life. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” It might be fun if you were a lone traveler and didn’t enjoy getting lagged behind your schedule. Still, the adventure could be more colorful and unexpected, hopefully in a good way, when you got company, especially during a long journey like this. Hence, picking up a close friend or two who share the same viewpoints, the same eager desire to capture the beautiful lanscapes of my country with me would be my choice. We would start from the south where we are living and move north on the go, stopping at our favorite beaches like X, Y… a little longer than other places because ain’t nobody don’t have time for juicy coconut and white sand paradise. Our cuisine would also be our utmost priority whenever we reach a new place as there is no better way to live like a local other than eat like a local and I really look forward for that. The car would give us room to comfortably converse with each other and shelter from inclement weather, if any. It is not about the destinations but also about the time I would love to spend with my dear friends as we would share the same space in a four-wheel vehicle along the road; because at the end of the day, it’s people that matters.
PART – 3 Discussion
Do you like traveling?
Yes, definitely! I think seeing the world, from great historical monuments to white sandy beaches, is what life is all about. It’s a very interesting way to learn about new cultures and explore new places.
Who do you often spend the holiday with?
It depends on what kind of holiday it is. If it’s Christmas vacation, I prefer to hang out with my friends here and there and have a chit-chat. If it’s the New Year holiday, I just want to celebrate the holiday with my family and relatives in a cozy ambiance.
How much traveling have you done?
Well for a start I’m an international student, so my life can be counted as traveling. I’ve been on a road trip to the USA, a vacation to Japan, and Korea when I was younger thanks to my father meeting sales goals, and most recently Australia – a splendid country.
What kind of places have you visited in your life?
I am a working person. Therefore, I prefer to visit the places which elevate my mood and energize me. I have been to some of the most beautiful beaches and lakes in my country. These places bring me closer to nature and rejuvenate me.
When you visit new places, what do you like to do?
It seems to me that there’s a lot of stuff to do when visiting a brand-new place. At first, I would love to take photographs to bookmark my travel experience as well as share it with my best mates. Culture vulture seems to be my other character when I feel like discovering the places of great aesthetic appeal everywhere I set foot in.
Do you prefer traveling alone or in a group?
Well, it depends on my current mood. A trip to the off-the-beaten-track destinations, mountainous or forested place, for instance, will be my initial choice if I feel devastated. On the contrary, I will congregate with my companions and sign up for guided tours as it’s a chance to be shown around and take photographs – one of my hobbies when feeling overjoyed.
