IELTS Writing is considered one of the most difficult task for IELTS test takers. In this module Introduction and Body paragraph play an vital role in the enhancement of your scores. So today we will give you the overview of IELTS writing – introduction & body paragraph.
1. Identification of the TOPIC is quite essential. As if you incorrectly identify the type of question then definitely marking will be affected adversely. To avoid such kind of mistakes, read your question statement twice or thrice & try to understand the demand of the question in the terms of advantages – disadvantages, reason-solution, opinion and so on. Even you can underline the main keywords, where there is need to focus.
2. Plan your Ideas– for a superior planning, you can make three columns on paper firstly for main idea, second for elaboration keywords and third for result. There is no need to add depth knowledge about your ideas plus explanation, just write main keywords, Good Vocab Words, complex sentences that you want to add. because Sometimes when we do not plan our ideas and start to write then there are more chances of writing unwanted data, as it is the fact while writing, plenty of thoughts come in our mind and at that time, we are unable to differentiate the relevant and irrelevant information owing to exam pressure, which leads to inappropriate TASK RESPONSE. However, if planning is well organized then there is only need to concentrate on presentation. Only 5-7 minutes are enough for it. Even you can devote 1-2 minutes more to rec- check your ideas.
3. While starting to write the task- make sure, only 2-4 minutes are sufficient to complete the introduction, as only 2 sentences are required in it one for Paraphrasing and another for Thesis (Purpose of writing the essay as per demand). Apart from it, some students write General Line, which is optional and depend upon the topic. If it is easy to pick, you can add, but if it is consuming some time then it can be avoided.
In paraphrasing – Just re-write the question statement in your own words (either you can simply replace the words or the complete sentence formation {active to passive / Gerund with Collocation}.
In Thesis Statement – Just clear to the reader that why we are writing the essay. For example: This essay will explain the merits as well as demerits……. keywords can be changed as per need.
Body Paragraph 1: – Follow the Standard structure of presentation of data:
First Sentence – Signposting Line for starting with the help of any filler (Commencing with, to commence with, To embark with, To start with)
Second Sentence – main idea, which can be represented in two ways: we can write just 3-4 Keywords or a single line in simple sentence (Make sure your main idea should not be started from any conditional structure). Let’s consider an example to make it clear,

You can observe the linking connectors in both cases.
Third – Fourth Sentence: Elaborate your idea by using any conditional plus passive sentences (if then, when then if possible).
Next Sentence – Add example to support your view ( it can be real life example from your personal experience or any survey/ report data) but try to avoid the empty words, as the main purpose of example is to add on information, not to repeat the content from explanation)
Last Sentence – summarize the whole information in the form of effect of the whole scenario.
