In IELTS writing tasks organization of response is very important as this will make your task well structured and organized. So today we will give few tips to organize your response properly.

Before we get to the main agenda first lets discuss what actually comes in writing  task 1 and 2.

 General TrainingAcademic
Writing Task 1You will need to write a letter to a friend, relative, manager, boss, etc. You will need to request information or explain a situation.You will need to describe or explain a diagram, table, chart or graph.
Writing Task 2You will need to write an essay in response to a problem or argument.You will need to write an essay in response to a problem or argument.

Read the task carefully and take notes

The first thing you do before starting the task read the statement carefully and prepare your notes so that you don’t forget any point and you will be aware that which point will come before and what will come later.

Always Remember:

– Make notes of the relevant ideas that comes in your mind.

– Make an outline to organize your ideas in response.

– Elaborate your answer and give supporting details and examples.

Make paragraphs

Start writing as soon as you prepare outline from your chosen ideas. It is necessary to divide thoughts into paragraphs as it will make your answer organized. Take one topic and elaborate it within the paragraph. Remember, you should not make too small paragraphs i.e. of 2-3 sentences.

Use the correct format in your response

Hence, writing task 1 is different for academic and general test so they have different format.

 In General Training, Writing Task 1, you will need to structure your letter and include: 

–  A short greeting to the recipient at the start

– Then the reason of writing the letter.  

– Cover all the bullet points in separate paragraphs.

– A short closing

In Academic, Writing Task 1, when describing a graph, chart or diagram in the question, make sure you have: 

– An introduction – rewording of the question

– Body paragraph(s) – key details, their relevance, comparisons, etc. 

– An overview or summary of the main ideas.

For the Writing Task 2 essay, you will write using essay format. You should have: 

– Start with introductionin which you should write the thesis statement i.e.  what the essay will be about. 

– Body paragraphs (usually 2 to 3) in which you should take a topic and expand it with a supporting and an example.

– A conclusion summarising the points in your essay.

Keep an eye on time

The writing task is of 60 minutes out of which 20 minutes should be devoted to task 1 and remaining 40 on task 2. Make sure that you end your task within this time limit for this prepare your outline accordingly.
