Employment – the fact of someone being paid to work for a company or organization.
Sentence – With the current job situation, age discrimination in employment is becoming more common.
Unemployed – not having a job that provides money.
Sentence – Getting the unemployed back to work, said the minister, is a moral imperative.
Technical Cooperation – Activities that augment the level of knowledge, skills, technical know-how or productive. aptitudes of people in developing countries; and contribute to the execution of a capital project.
Sentence – The future of the talks on the technical cooperation between the two companies is problematic.
Team Leaders – the person in charge of a team.
Sentence – Dealing managers and team leaders shout at, cajole and entice their dealers into selling large quantities of stock.
Showroom – a large shop in which people are encouraged to look at the goods that are on sale before buying them.
Sentence – The salesman was trying to point us in the direction of the most expensive furniture in the showroom.
Information Desk – a place in a public building, store, etc. where you can go to get information, for example about where to find things in the building.
Sentence – The employee on hotel information desk asks him to keep the name to hotel register.
Stress – great worry caused by a difficult situation, or something that causes this condition.
Sentence – Extreme stress had driven him to the brink of a nervous breakdown.
Antisocial = contrary to the laws and customs of society, in a way that causes annoyance and disapproval in others.
Sentence – Unexpected overtime, low wages and complicated antisocial hours are features for many care assistants.
Conform = to behave according to the usual standards of behaviour that are expected by a group or society
Sentence – He doesn’t conform to the usual stereotype of the businessman with a dark suit and briefcase.
Cooperate = to act or work together for a particular purpose, or to be helpful by doing what someone asks you to do
Sentence – Their refusal to cooperate is perfectly/completely understandable, considering the circumstances.
Mindset = a person’s way of thinking and their opinions
Sentence – The greatest challenge for the Americans is understanding the mindset of Eastern Europeans.
Minority = a smaller number or part
Sentence – There is a crying need for more magistrates from the ethnic minority communities.
Shun = to avoid something
Sentence – Among the habits which children should shun are slovenliness, rudeness, laziness, lying, stealing and slandering.
Conventional = traditional and ordinary
Sentence – She gives the impression of being rather conventional, but under the surface she is wildly eccentric.
Arrive – to reach a place, especially at the end of a journey.
Sentence – Please make every endeavour to arrive punctually.
Dark – with little or no light.
Sentence – The thief slunk down the dark alley.
Unlawful – not allowed by law.
Sentence – The lawyer was disbarred from practice when he was round guilty of unlawful acts.
Knowingly – in a way that shows you know about something.
Sentence – If any employee knowingly breaks the terms of this contract they will be dismissed immediately.
Moderately – in a way that is neither small nor large in size, amount, degree, or strength.
Sentence – An established hebe may survive all but the worst winters, but a young plant may succumb to moderately severe weather.
Insurgent – someone who is fighting against the government in their own country.
Sentence – There are also two insurgent factions in the game, to let you play as the rebels.
Uprising – an act of opposition, sometimes using violence, by many people in one area of a country against those who are in power.
Sentence – Isolated attacks in the north-east of the country have now turned into a full-scale uprising.
