So here are the tips to work through when taking IELTS Listening practice tests which will help you identify your weakness and strengths.

1. Proper utilization of given time

During the test you will get breaks in the recording where the narrator will tell you ‘You have now time to…’.These breaks are either given to read the next set of questions or to check your answers from the previous part. I suggest you to give more time to look at the upcoming part and underlining the keywords as more you will be prepared for what is coming, the chances of boosting your listening band score will increase. Talking about the checking for that you will have 10 minutes to check them and copy to the answer sheet.

2. Don’t leave any question unanswered

Never leave an answer empty! If anyhow you missed any answer try to cope with it in the 10 minutes given at the end of the listening test, go with an educated guess and fill the space with an answer that (a) seems logical (b) suits the requirements of the question. Remember that there is no negative marking in IELTS exam you will not lose points for giving the wrong answer.

3. Is there one particular question type that is causing more difficulty than others?

During your practice sessions identify your weaknesses by checking if there is a particular question type that seems to be more difficult and you make more errors than others. For example, your multiple choice questions are more wrong as compared to others. It means that you are facing problem in MCQ’s try to solve this problem with the help of online tips and strategies.

4. Understand why you made a mistake?

Do self analyzing of your work, focusing on the answers you got wrong. Retrace the information to know why you put that answer and try to know why the correct answer was correct as this will help you to work faster through the listening test and avoid to commit same mistake again. You should take IELTS listening practice tests as it will keep you in touch with the pattern but stick to the time limits.

5. Always be one question ahead

Sometime during IELTS listening test student get stuck to hear an information but unfortunately he miss it but he waits for it for a long time as a result he miss another two or three question. For example  So you’re listening carefully for the answer to Question 4, which you’re sure is the name of a person, but you don’t hear it. Then you realize that you’ve been waiting for the name for so long that you’ve missed the next two questions! To avoid this situation you should keep in mind what the next question is so that if you miss any question you don’t miss another one.

6. Make the question paper your own

Use question paper as per your need and desire as the question paper is not seen or checked by the examiner so you can write anything on it. You can underline key words, put large circles around qualifying words – even write synonyms for words you think might be rephrased. Let me clear you one thing that you are not allowed to take question paper with you and the invigilator will collect it at the end of the listening test but it is neither seen nor checked by anyone.

With Best Wishes!

Thank You @~
