IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some children nowadays take sports seriously while others play sports in their free time. Is it positive or negative development?
SAMPLE ANSWER
In recent years, it has been observed that while some children treat sports as a serious career path, others view it as a casual hobby. In my opinion, this is a largely positive development, provided children receive proper guidance and balance.
On the one hand, children who take sports seriously from a young age often develop strong discipline, resilience, and teamwork skills. For those with talent and passion, early dedication can lead to professional opportunities, scholarships, or national representation. In a world increasingly focused on fitness and mental well-being, encouraging sports as a serious pursuit can promote healthy lifestyles and reduce screen addiction among youth.
On the other hand, children who play sports simply for fun also gain numerous benefits, such as physical fitness, stress relief, and social interaction. Not every child needs to pursue sports professionally. It is essential that children are not pressured into over-competitive environments too early, which can lead to burnout or injury.
In fact, having both types of approaches—serious and casual—creates a healthy environment where children can choose based on their interests and abilities. What matters most is that they stay active and enjoy what they are doing.
In conclusion, whether children pursue sports professionally or just for fun, both scenarios offer positive outcomes. The key lies in providing them with the freedom to choose and ensuring a supportive environment, free from excessive pressure.
