Enhance your skills in IELTS Writing Task 1
In this article we will discuss about few tips and tricks to achieve good band score in IELTS Writing Task 1. Using these tips your score will definitely increase.
1. Plan First:
Remember time management is very essential so you can’t afford to write a detailed plan, as you only have so much time. But if you study the diagram, table or chart you are given, you can actually use that as a plan.
You can actually study the table a bit and think about how you could group information around two main paragraphs.
2. Introduction:
Introduction gives an idea about your whole article so you could write a whole separate introductory paragraph, but make sure it’s not too long or you may not have time for the body of your writing.
You may also decide to join the introduction and the first paragraph, but only do this in Writing Task 1, the shorter of the two writing tasks.
Make sure to give a sense of direction to the reader by using same topic sentences that maps out the rest of your writing.
3. One paragraph one idea:
Each paragraph needs to have one main idea. The other ideas in the paragraph will be supporting ideas.
In Concluding paragraph, you can conclude the ending of your article but do that only depending on how much time you have left and whether you managed to write at least 150 words. Basically, youcan just use the last paragraph to serve as a conclusion.
Use Clear and Helpful Language to support your main idea.
4. Take time for Proofreading
Proofread should be done only for grammar and vocabulary mistakes and then once again for spelling mistakes. You may not notice spelling mistakes if you focus on grammar and vocabulary and vice versa. So, basically proofreading should be done two times only if you have extra time.Remember that this is a language test, so the evaluators will focus a lot on your grammar, vocabulary and spelling, as well as on your ability to organize your writing. It’s always good to go back and check your writing.
But don’t sacrifice writing time for proofreading time. Proofreading can giveyou some extra points by minimizing the number of mistakes in your writing.
Set aside around five minutes for proofreading when you’re done writing. Your priority is to finish the writing task.
One good rule to remember is to never hand in your writing early. Use whatever time you have left for proofreading. Every single minute should be utilized.
At the end, there isn’t much you can do about your whole article such as organizing your views, but you can correct some small grammar, spelling or vocabulary mistakes.
The IELTS Writing Task 1 may seem difficult at first, but once you practice writing effectively, along with planning and proofreading, you’ll know exactly what to do on the big day!
