WRITING TASK 2 (AC + GT)
Children learn best by observing the behaviour of adults and copying it. To what extent do you agree or disagree to this statement?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Children’s creativity finds its best expression in their imitation of their parents and other adult members whom they come across in their day-to-day lives. They learn many things, useful or otherwise, by observing adult members of society and their peers. This essay, therefore, is in total agreement to the statement that children learn best by observation, even though formal learning takes place from other sources such as the school.
To begin with, the power of observation is a wonderful gift. It is the source of creativity. Human beings learn things through observation. For instance, children learn to speak by observing their and then by imitating other’s gestures and postures.
Secondly, when we look at our progress, we realize how we set our goals although our childhood goals kept on changing. For example, many men may say how much it was their desire to become diver or police officer or thieves, no matter what they are now. Even professional women may admit how they were feeding their dolls when they had small child.
Thirdly, when we succeed in achieving our goals, it is to very large degree a product of our observation and imitation of others. By reading crime stories and observing crimes, many people have turned to crimes. Although there are other forms of learning, which play* a no less important role in our lives, learning by observation has its place in everybody’s life.
To conclude, we can argue learning is a multi-dimensional process. In childhood, it starts by observing others and the environment. Later, we inevitably learn from all other available sources such as schools, colleges and universities.
