WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT)
The wealth of nation depends on the health of its citizens. Yet, in the modern knowledge-based economies of the world, education is more and more seen as the main force I the development of all countries. Do you agree?
SAMPLE ANSWER
The physical well-being of the citizenry of any nation can be doubtlessly considered as the wealth of that nation. It is healthy people who achieve progress. However, breakthroughs in science and technology have made education a much more sought after quality towards the development of all nations. Indeed, information Technology has become the driving force behind the progress of many fast growing countries such as India, china, Brazil and Taiwan.
Doubtlessly, science and technology can thrive only in a society where citizens are literate. The health of the people is also dependent on the awareness of factors that are conductive to health. A society, which is quite backwards in hygiene, for example, cannot be regarded as developed because uncultured people are not amenable (=responsive)to reason, and attempts to make such people aware of hygienic and healthy hazards have all failed because of low awareness.
Further, the problem of population explosion is a hindrance to economic development. Population control measures have succeeded only in society where people are literate. Kerala, the Southern most state of India, is an example of a better educated society embracing population control measures, whereas in other states of India, where the literacy rate is low, these programmes have not made much headway.
In summary, education is the prime factor for the development of all countries, for it provides citizens with the necessary intellectual skills required for survival and development today.
