IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people believe that computers are more a hinderance than a help in todays world. Others feel that they are such indispensable tools that they would not be able to live or work without them. In what ways are computers a hinderance? What is your opinion?
SAMPLE ANSWER
In the modern era, computers play a vital role in almost every aspect of life. While some people argue that they create more problems than benefits, others believe they are essential for both personal and professional tasks. This essay will discuss the drawbacks of computers and present my opinion.
On the one hand, computers can be a hindrance in several ways. Firstly, excessive dependence on them has reduced human interaction, leading to social isolation and poor communication skills. For instance, many people now prefer chatting online rather than meeting face-to-face. Secondly, long hours of computer use often cause health issues such as eye strain, back pain, and lack of physical activity. Moreover, the widespread use of the internet has increased cybercrimes, including identity theft and online fraud, which pose serious risks to users’ privacy and security.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that computers have made life more convenient and efficient. They enable people to work remotely, study online, and access vast amounts of information instantly. In addition, industries and businesses rely on computers for data management, design, and communication, improving productivity and accuracy. Without computers, modern society would struggle to function smoothly.
In my view, computers are more of a help than a hindrance. Although they have certain disadvantages, their benefits far outweigh the drawbacks when used responsibly and in moderation.
