Some people think parents should read or tell stories to children. Others think parents needn’t do that as children can read books or watch TV, movies by themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some believe that parents should read or tell stories to their children, while others argue that children can engage with stories independently through books, television, or movies. Both perspectives have merit.
On one hand, storytelling by parents plays a vital role in early childhood development. It builds emotional bonds, encourages imagination, and helps children develop listening and language skills. A child who hears stories from a parent often associates reading with comfort and attention, making them more likely to develop a love for literature. Additionally, it provides opportunities for parents to instil moral values and discuss real-life lessons in an engaging way.
On the other hand, modern children have access to a wide range of educational resources. Animated stories, interactive books, and audiobooks can engage young minds effectively. Some argue that independent reading helps children develop autonomy and creativity at their own pace, especially as they grow older. Furthermore, working parents may not always have the time for regular storytelling.
In my opinion, while self-reading and digital media are valuable tools, they cannot replace the personal connection and learning that come from stories shared by parents. Even brief daily sessions can create lasting memories and shape a child’s character in a way that screens cannot. Therefore, parents should be encouraged to take an active role in storytelling, especially during early childhood.
