IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You had to take a sudden trip and couldn’t inform your friend in advance.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:

– Apologise for not contacting them earlier

– Explain why the trip was urgent

– Share your experience of the trip

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear K,

I hope you’re doing well. I’m really sorry I couldn’t inform you before I left for my trip last week. It all happened so suddenly that I barely had time to pack, let alone reach out.

The reason for the urgent travel was a family emergency. My uncle in Delhi fell seriously ill, and I had to rush there to support my aunt and cousins. Thankfully, he’s now recovering well, and things are slowly getting back to normal.

Despite the stressful start, the trip turned out to be quite meaningful. I spent quality time with my relatives, and it reminded me how important family bonds are. I even managed to visit a few peaceful spots nearby, which helped me recharge emotionally.

Let’s definitely catch up soon—I owe you a long conversation and some photos from the trip!
