IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Many working people get little or no exercise either during the working day or in their free time, and have health problems as a result. Why do many working people not get enough exercise? What can be done about this problem?
SAMPLE ANSWER
In today’s fast-paced world, many working individuals struggle to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines. This lack of exercise often leads to a range of health issues, including obesity, heart disease, and stress-related illnesses. Several factors contribute to this problem, but there are also effective solutions that can be implemented.
One major reason for the lack of exercise is the demanding nature of modern jobs. Many employees work long hours, often sitting at desks for extended periods, leaving them too tired or time-constrained to engage in physical activity. Additionally, the widespread use of technology has reduced the need for physical effort both at work and at home. Commuting by car, shopping online, and spending leisure time on screens further limit opportunities for movement.
To address this issue, both individuals and employers must take proactive steps. Employers can encourage a healthier lifestyle by offering on-site fitness facilities, organizing wellness programs, or promoting active breaks during the workday. Flexible work schedules could also allow employees to fit exercise into their day more easily. On a personal level, individuals should prioritize physical activity by incorporating short workouts into their routines, using stairs instead of elevators, or walking or cycling to work when possible.
In conclusion, the modern lifestyle often leaves little room for exercise, but with conscious effort from both workers and organizations, it is possible to make regular physical activity a part of everyday life, thereby improving overall health and well-being.
