IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You are going to teach English to your friend’s child. Write a letter to your past English teacher to ask if you can borrow some books from him/her. In your letter

– tell your teacher about the child;

– say when and where you will teach the child;

– explain what books you would like to borrow.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr. Thompson,

I hope you are doing well. I’m writing to ask if I could borrow some English books from you, as I’ll soon be teaching English to my friend’s 10-year-old daughter, Lily. She is bright and enthusiastic, but she needs help with grammar and vocabulary.

I’ll be tutoring her at my home every Saturday morning for the next few months. Since you always had such a great collection of teaching materials, I thought of reaching out to you.

If possible, I’d love to borrow a few beginner to intermediate level grammar workbooks and some simple storybooks suitable for her age. Anything that includes fun activities or exercises would be especially helpful.

Thank you in advance, and please let me know if it would be convenient to stop by and pick them up.
