IELTS Writing Task 2

In many societies, homelessness is a pervasive issue, and while some people argue that giving money directly to homeless individuals is the best way to help, I believe that this approach is not the most effective solution.

On one hand, providing money might offer immediate relief to those in need. For example, it could help them buy food, clothing, or temporary shelter. It also allows individuals the freedom to choose how they want to spend the money, which could be seen as empowering. However, this approach often fails to address the root causes of homelessness, such as mental illness, addiction, or a lack of affordable housing.

On the other hand, long-term solutions, such as providing access to social services, affordable housing, job training, and mental health support, are more sustainable. These solutions focus on helping homeless individuals rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. Governments and charities that invest in these programs can make a far greater impact than if individuals simply give money on the street. Moreover, there is a risk that giving money may enable harmful behavior, particularly when addiction is involved.

In conclusion, while giving money may seem like a kind gesture, it is not the most effective way to address homelessness. A more comprehensive approach that includes social support and long-term solutions is necessary to truly help homeless individuals regain their independence and dignity. Therefore, I would not agree with the view that giving money is the best way to assist homeless individuals.
