Is it common for people to have gardens in your country?
I believe it all depends on which area you are residing in. In the countryside, every house is surrounded by a garden and the locals grow a lot of fruit trees or vegetables. But in urban areas, due to the dense population, few houses have gardens. Urban people grow vegetables in pots placed on balconies or terraces. Sometimes their so-called garden is just a collection of artificial hanging plants.
Which plants are important to the economy in your country?
Rice plays a vital role in the daily life of people in my country because it’s our main food. In addition, my country is one of the largest rice exporters in the world, therefore, economy depends quite a lot on this plant. The rice fields are the symbol of the village, and they can be found in any rural area in my country, I believe.
Is gardening popular in your country?
Yes, it is. I think it is one of the most popular pastime activities in my country. I thought gardening is only popular with older generations in my country. But now young people are becoming increasingly fanatical about horticulture. Maybe this trend is related to the fact that more people are aware of the benefits of consuming organic food while buying those things is very expensive. It’s also a good way to get away from computer screens and other devices and help us let our hair down.

In your opinion, why is it important to grow plants?
As far as I’m concerned, as humans, we need to grow plants to survive on our planet. From an environmental perspective, plants can purify the air and provide shade. Not only that, growing a plant, watering it daily, and ensuring it stays healthy help us learn how to be caring, be patient, and feel a sense of relaxation.
Have you ever received a plant as a gift?
I’ve never received a plant as a gift in my whole life. My family and friends read me like a book, and they acknowledge that I’m not the type of guy who has green fingers. To be honest, I usually only get common gifts like clothes, shoes, or watches. However, if I were given a plant, I’d be thrilled and grateful.

One of the most memorable prizes I’ve ever received was a silver medal in a regional badminton tournament. This competition was held two years ago at the District Sports Complex in my hometown. It was an inter-school event with participants from various schools, and the level of competition was quite high.
I had been practicing for months before the tournament. I was extremely nervous on the day of the match, but I managed to stay focused and gave it my best. I reached the finals and ended up securing second place. Although I didn’t win the gold, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and achievement when the medal was placed around my neck during the award ceremony.
This medal was very important to me because it was the first time I had competed at that level, and it validated all the hard work and dedication I had put in. It also boosted my confidence and motivated me to continue pursuing sports alongside my studies.

Why is it important to give prizes to children?
Prizes play a crucial role in a child’s development. They provide recognition and a sense of accomplishment for the child’s effort. When children are rewarded, it reinforces positive behavior and encourages them to keep striving for excellence. Moreover, it builds self-esteem and motivates them to set higher goals. Prizes also help children understand the value of hard work, consistency, and discipline.
Do you think giving prizes motivates children to do better?
Yes, I believe prizes can be strong motivators, especially for younger children. When they know there is a reward at the end, they tend to stay focused and work harder. However, it’s also important to ensure that children don’t become dependent solely on external rewards. Teachers and parents should balance this by helping children develop intrinsic motivation as well—that is, doing things for personal satisfaction rather than just for recognition.

Are academic prizes more meaningful than sports prizes? Why or why not?
It really depends on the child’s interests and goals. Academic prizes recognize intellectual achievement and critical thinking skills, which are highly valued in educational and professional settings. On the other hand, sports prizes reward physical talent, teamwork, and perseverance. Both types of prizes are equally meaningful because they acknowledge different abilities and encourage all-round development. One should not be considered more important than the other.
Should children receive participation prizes, or only for winning?
This is a debated topic. For younger children, I think participation prizes are beneficial as they promote inclusivity and make sure no child feels left out. They help in building confidence and reduce the fear of failure. However, as children grow older, it’s important to introduce the concept of merit-based rewards. This helps them understand that while effort is valuable, excellence and achievement deserve special recognition.

How can schools balance rewarding academic and non-academic achievements?
Schools can create a structured reward system that equally highlights both academic and non-academic areas such as sports, music, art, leadership, and social work. Annual award ceremonies can have multiple categories to ensure a variety of talents are acknowledged. It’s also important for schools to instill the message that all skills—whether intellectual, creative, or physical—are valuable in shaping a well-rounded individual.
Do you think prizes encourage healthy competition, or can they create pressure?
Prizes can definitely encourage healthy competition if managed wisely. They inspire students to push their limits, learn from others, and aim for higher standards. However, if the focus is too heavily on winning, it may lead to unhealthy stress, comparison, or even jealousy among peers. It’s important for teachers and parents to create a supportive environment where effort, improvement, and sportsmanship are valued just as much as victory.
