SAMPLE ANSWER
One person from Punjab who has won a prestigious award is Milkha Singh, also known as “The Flying Sikh.” He was one of India’s greatest athletes and a legendary sprinter.
Milkha Singh received the Padma Shri Award in 1959, which is one of India’s highest civilian honors. He was given this award for his outstanding contributions to Indian athletics.
Milkha Singh made history by winning the gold medal in the 1958 Commonwealth Games—the first Indian athlete to achieve this feat in track and field. He also won multiple gold medals in the Asian Games and narrowly missed an Olympic medal in the 1960 Rome Olympics, where he finished fourth in the 400-meter race. His dedication, hard work, and perseverance made him a national hero and an inspiration for generations of athletes.
I firmly believe that it was absolutely right for Milkha Singh to receive this award. He brought great honor to Punjab and India through his achievements in athletics. His story of overcoming hardships, including losing his family during the Partition of India, and his relentless pursuit of excellence in sports, make him truly deserving of such recognition. His contribution to Indian sports continues to inspire young athletes.
