The two maps illustrate the changes made to Tilden Airport and its surrounding area between 1985 and 2015.
In 1985, the airport had a single runway, with an international and a domestic terminal located nearby. Facilities such as a car park and airport support services were situated south of the terminals. The area to the north was occupied by Johnson’s Farm, while several factories were located to the east.
By 2015, the airport had undergone significant development. A second runway, “Runway Two,” was constructed diagonally across the northern area, replacing Johnson’s Farm. A bus and light rail station was added between the car park and airport support services, and a light rail line was built extending to the east. Additionally, a hotel and conference centre was established to the southeast, while the factories were replaced by a business park and a housing estate.
Overall, the airport became more modernized and better connected over the 30-year period.
