Do you like reading?
Yes, I’m definitely a bibliophile (a person who loves to read)! I believe that books are a way to not only escape, but also gain more knowledge. By the same token, people who read tend to have a richer vocabulary and a higher level of general knowledge, so they tend to have more to talk about, and are thus more interesting.

Do you read electronic book?
Definitely yes. I’m a real sucker for e-books as they are portable. I often download my favorite books and copy them to my smartphones or Ipads and when I’m on the bus in other public places, I will take my hi-tech devices out and start to read right on my phone.
What kind of books do you like to read?
I love reading anything that falls under literary fiction. By this I mean authors like Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen and Haruki Murakami. I can’t get enough of Kafka on the shore!
What was your favorite book as a child?
I remember being very fond of a book called “My Sister’s Keeper”. I recall that it was the story of two sisters, one of which needed a kidney transplant. Although the sister was initially apprehensive (scared; nervous) to do so, she ended up donating a kidney to her sister and saving her.

Have you lent books to other?
At times, I reckon. My friends and t are avid readers and would love to exchange books with one another. So, I often lend my books, mostly English books to my besties and get in return some comic books to read in my free time.
Have you borrowed books from others?
As I have said, I have a circle of friends who are bookworms! which means I’m in the habit of borrowing some comic books from my friends to while away the time during days off or just to catch up on things in the Manga world.

Do you read professional books?
At the moment, I’m getting bogged down with work! so I can’t manage decent time for reading books related to my major field of study, but in the past during my university years, I had to say I was a bookworm, and purchased books every week to enhance my expertise.

Talk about a time when you teamed up with an old person

SAMPLE ANSWER
Teaming up with an elderly can be a memorable experience. Today, I’m going to share one such experience with you.
I was in 10th class. The preparation for board exams was a never ending process. I found it quite hard to stick to a monotonous routine. Finally, the exams got over but they had drained my energy. All I wanted was a change in my daily routine. My parents were working full-time. They took many days off during my exams. Naturally, it wasn’t possible for them to take me on a holiday. At last, I asked my grandfather if he could come and take me to the village.

To my surprise, he came the very next day. I was very excited about my holidays. I packed my bag and we happily set off in the afternoon. We reached the village late in the evening. My grandfather showed me the house. Even though it was dark, I could clearly see some work was going on in the garden. My grandpa said we would work together tomorrow.
The morning was beautiful. After breakfast I went to the garden. It looked a little rusty and needed a make-over. My grandpa was building a bench. I observed him for a while and then joined him. The bench was ready in the evening. We decided to place it in front of the pond. Our next plan was to plant some new colourful flowers. He had already bought pots of many different shapes and sizes. So, I helped him in filling them in with soil and compost and planting flowers like marigolds, lilies and dahlias etc. We kept all plants at different places. I dug out a fire pit too.
Our garden renovation project lasted for more than a week. I loved it as each day was different. We could see the progress of our work which gave us a sense of fulfillment. Together we transformed a dull garden into a lovely outdoor space. All in all, it was the best time I’ve ever spent with an old man. I will never forget those holidays.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What are the advantages of having an elderly person at home?
Old people are very knowledgeable so the obvious advantage is that you’ll have somebody to consult whenever there’s a problem. As they are very experienced, they can give advice on all aspects of life including work, friendship and love.
Is there anything that older people should learn from the younger generation?
Of course yes. Young generations are often more familiar with the latest trends and technology; therefore, they can keep the elderly updated on these things. For example, my mum didn’t know how to use Facebook and I had to spend a few hours helping her create an account then connect with her friends. Now she is very active on Facebook, even more, active than I am.

What can the younger generation learn from the older generation?
Youngsters can ask older people for advice on love, work and friendship. Although our world is changing very fast, somethings remains the same. And that’s where old people can help with their wealth of experience. I often consult my mum on my work, because she has the same job. When you talk with an old person, you can also learn about life in the past, which is also very interesting.
What qualities does a person need to take care of old people?
Compassion and patience, I guess. Old people sometimes have unreasonable requests, especially when they’re sick or insecure. You need to understand these feelings and be patient. For example, my dad has become quite forgetful recently; he often forgets where he leaves his key or wallet. This was quite annoying at first but I’m getting used to it.

Do you think elderly people should be allowed to work?
Yes, if they’re capable of working. I know some old people who look a lot younger than their age and work very efficiently. Nowadays, living standards and healthcare have improved significantly, as a result, people live much longer. It is only natural to have the working-age limits extended.
Do you think that elderly people should be taken care of at home?
It depends on the family. It is better for an old person to live with his or her family. But if everyone is busy then a care home is a better choice. This type of home has everything an old person needs, including medical services. And an old person can make friends with other old people who live here.
Why do old people today live longer than in the past?
Because of the improvement in healthcare and overall living standards. In the past we didn’t have enough food to eat, now we have more than enough food and better healthcare. Although there are new diseases that didn’t exist in the past overall life expectancy has increased.
