You and your neighbours have noticed that the rubbish collection services where you live have recently been quite bad. Write a letter to your local council. In your letter,

– explain what you have recently experienced

– explain what the neighbours have recently experienced

– ask what action will be taken to improve the service

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to draw your attention towards the poor rubbish collection service in the residential area of Toronto city where we live. We are facing problems due to the excessive garbage.

I am in the habit of going morning walks daily, but due to the garbage, I am unable to do that. Yesterday, I saw the rubbish collectors come to pick up the garbage. Even though we put general garbage, recyclables and kitchen waste in different bins, they did not collect it properly.

The people in the neighbourhood are not able to take a breath in the fresh air and the garbage is scattered everywhere which creates a problem for everyone to walk. This garbage not only creates different diseases in the area but also the bad odour compels us to leave the area immediately.

I want you to handle this issue on a priority basis. Also please warn the rubbish collector to collect it on time. I recommend you give them proper dates and schedules to improve the rubbish service in our area. I would be very grateful to you.
