A couple has recently moved into the apartment on the floor you live. You were away when they moved in and now you want to invite them for dinner.

Write a letter to the couple. In your letter

• introduce yourself to them

• give details of your apartment

• invite them for dinner

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Thompson,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is David Miller, and I live in apartment 4B, just across the hall from yours. I recently returned from a business trip abroad and heard from the building manager that you moved in while I was away.

I’ve been living in this building for the past three years and have truly enjoyed the friendly community and peaceful environment. My apartment is a two-bedroom unit on the same floor as yours, directly opposite your door. It has a small balcony with a nice view of the park—perhaps you’ve seen it already.

I would be delighted to welcome you to the building and get to know you better. Please consider joining me and my wife, Emily, for dinner this Saturday evening around 7 p.m. We’ll be preparing some homemade dishes and would love to have your company.
