IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You have been living in a rented apartment for the last two years. Your rental agreement will expire in two months, but you want to extend it for another two years.

Write a letter to the agency. In your letter,

– introduce yourself

– say why you want to extend the contract

– mention what changes you would recommend in the contract

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is [Your Name], and I have been renting the apartment at [Apartment Address] for the past two years. I am writing to inform you that my current rental agreement is set to expire in two months, and I would like to request an extension for another two years.

I have thoroughly enjoyed living in this apartment, and it has become my comfortable home. The location, amenities, and peaceful environment have all contributed to my decision to stay longer. I am pleased with the property and would prefer not to go through the process of finding a new place.

In terms of the contract, I would like to request a few minor adjustments. First, I would appreciate it if we could review the rent increase for the next term, as I have been a reliable tenant and would like to avoid any significant changes in cost. Additionally, I would appreciate some clarity regarding maintenance responsibilities, particularly in regard to any long-term repairs that might arise during my tenancy.
