SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter in reference to the article published in the City News section of 7th August of your esteemed daily regarding the hockey match played between the City Lions and City Kings teams on the previous day, for example 6th August. While there is nothing much to complain about the score line of the match and the respective team strengths, the wild allegations with regard to conduct of the match on the field are rather farfetched.
The news writer has raised serious doubts about fairness of the referee and has objected to the red card shown to a City Kings defender. I find nothing wrong with the award of red card, because this player committed the foul wilfully with the sole intention of putting the forward of the rival team out of action. The referee had to ensure fair play without threats or actions of bodily harm. I have the advantage of knowing the referee in person and know that he is a strict disciplinarian but fair minded, though I must clarify that I have not interacted with him lately.
I believe your correspondent should have checked her facts before putting them in print and somebody from your editorial team should have verified the report. I request you now to get the facts checked and publish the necessary correction.
Yours faithfully,
James Ernest
