1. Opt the right test
There are two tests that are offered by the IELTS authorities
1. Academic
2. General Training
Academic test is for the students who want to go abroad for higher education while the general training is for the individuals who want to work study or migrate to an English-speaking country.
2. Understand the test
Once you have decided which IELTS test to take, start with understanding it by knowing its format, parts of the test and the question types which will appear in the exam. Once you are clear with the basic things start practicing and decide for the exam date accordingly.
IELTS test is divided in four parts called as modules – Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing. Each part of the IELTS test is designed to judge your different language skill.
3. Depth knowledge of each question type
For cracking IELTS you should have a good knowledge of each question type of every module. You should be aware of every type of question so that in the exam you don’t get surprised by seeing a new question type. You should also know the accurate and quick approach to the each of them so that you can save your valuable time.
4. Understand the band scores
In IELTS numbers are allotted to you in the form of band scores which scale from a band 0 to a band 9. In IELTS you will get two types of scores an individual score that will tell you about your performance in each module and an overall band score which is based on the average of all the individual scores. It is good to familiarize yourself with what each score means and the marking criteria that examiners mark against for the Speaking and Writing tests.
5. Planned study and set goals
It is important to practice for your IELTS test and for this you should make a healthy study plan so that you can devote equal and fair time to each module. Study plan will do nothing if you don’t set a goal for as goals give you the motivation to complete your tasks in time.
6. Know what to expect on test day
You should be familiar with the process that you will face on the day of the exam in examination center. This will help you to avoid nervousness on the test day. Here are some things to keep in mind for test day:
– You should reach early to the examination center to avoid last minute rush.
– You cannot carry any electronic gadget such as phones, smart watches, books and notes in the examination hall.
– Bring your personal identification (passport) which is needed for the check-in process
