IELTS Speaking Test

Are you a social person?

Very much so! I feel that I thrive on (survive) social interactions. I like a small amount of time to myself each day, but I feel most charged when I spend time with others. I prefer to spend my free time with friends or family rather than being in my room reading a book, for instance.

Do you use social networking sites?

Yes, social networking websites have become part of my everyday life. My favourite one is Facebook, one of the most popular websites in the world, with millions of users in different countries.

What kind of people do you like to be friends with on those websites?

All kinds! I am friends with a wide range of people from my school years, family members, and friends I’ve recently met. I’m even friends with people who I’ve never even met before.

Do you like to use Facebook?

Yes, I love it! This social networking website allows me to keep in contact with my friends and find people you’ve lost touch with.

How did you first find out about Facebook?

As far as I remember, one of my friends sent me an email inviting me to join Facebook. I signed up and I’ve been using it ever since.

Will you use these sites more in the future?

Well, I’m trying to refrain myself from these sites, as I find myself quite addicted to entertaining contents on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. and squandering too much time on them. So I’d say I’m about to make a change and make less use of such online networking platforms.

I would like to talk about a very important phone call I received about a year ago. It was from my university’s admissions office.

At the time, I was at home, sitting in my living room, just going about my day. I had been anxiously waiting for a response regarding my application to a postgraduate program I had applied for. I had been checking my email regularly, and I had even gone so far as to check my spam folder, just in case the acceptance letter had slipped through.

The phone call came around midday. It was a number I didn’t recognize, but I decided to pick up. The voice on the other end introduced herself as a representative from the admissions office and informed me that I had been accepted into the program I had applied for. She also explained some important details, like the start date for classes and the next steps in the enrollment process. I remember feeling a rush of relief and excitement when I heard the news, as I had been waiting for quite some time and had been nervous about the outcome.

I consider this phone call to be extremely important because it marked a significant moment in my life. Gaining acceptance to the program meant a lot to me, as it was a crucial step towards achieving my long-term career goals. Additionally, it was a call that brought closure to the uncertainty I had been experiencing during the waiting period. It changed my outlook on the future and set a clear path for my academic and professional development.

Why do you think that phone call was so important?

The phone call was important because it directly impacted my future. It was the moment that confirmed I had been accepted into a prestigious program that would open many doors for me. Beyond just the academic achievement, it was a call that signified progress in my life and the opportunity to achieve my personal and professional goals.

How did you feel when you received that phone call?

I felt a mix of emotions—relief, excitement, and even a bit of disbelief at first. I had been anxiously waiting for weeks, and the uncertainty was hard to deal with. When I heard the news, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, and I was thrilled to be able to move forward with my plans.

Have you received other important phone calls?

Yes, I’ve received other important calls, such as job offers or calls from close friends and family. However, this one stands out because it was directly related to my future career and academic aspirations, which made it especially meaningful.

Do you prefer receiving important news via phone call or email?

I actually prefer receiving important news via phone call because it feels more personal and immediate. With a phone call, you can ask questions and get immediate clarification, which is something you don’t always get with email. Plus, it adds a human element to the news, which can make the experience more memorable.
