What is your full name?
My name is Kuldeep Kumar.
Can I see your ID?
Certainly, here is my passport.
Where are you from?
I’m from Ahmadabad.
Do you work or study?
I am an industrial chemist.
Do you enjoy your work? Why?
Initially, I did enjoy but with time I am losing interest.
What was your favorite activity when you were a child?
As a child, we had plenty of outdoor activities because internet and computers were not that popular then. Most of the time, we spent time going to parks or visiting the zoo or playing around with friends. My favorite activity was playing cricket with my friends.
IELTS Speaking Interview
What do you think children prefer: outdoor or indoor activities? Why?
I think they like both, don’t they? But it all depends on a child. These days most of the kids are glued to the computer or the phone screen playing games on the internet or video games. There are kids who have parents keeping a check on the internet usage so they do get time for outdoor activities.
How have kids’ activities changed since you were a child?
Earlier kids had more time for their hobby classes or sports but these days with the kind of competition they are facing at the academic front which is so stressful that they barely get any time for any other extra activities.
What is politeness in your opinion?
Polite behavior helps to build relationships with people, and it is a way of respecting.

SAMPLE ANSWER
Well, I am not sure about others, but I have sometimes avoided telling the truth, be it the whole truth or just the partial truth, to my friends. As I look back now, sometimes I had a good reason for that, and sometimes I did not. Today, I would like to share the story of one such occasion with you.
To be honest with you, during my high school years, when I was just a young kid, I was not aware of the virtue of telling the truth no matter what. Sometimes telling “lies”, to my family or my friends, as long as it wasn’t hurting anybody’s interest, seemed like the better option. But I now think quite differently.
Of course, my parents, in their defence, had taught me to always tell the truth, no matter how awkward the situation could get. But, still, I took the liberty to avoid telling the truth to this friend of mine after visiting his garden – a flower garden which he had managed to grow after working on it tirelessly for days and nights.

So, why exactly couldn’t I tell him the whole truth? Well, the reason was that I was kind of jealous of his achievement in being able to grow such a nice flower garden within such a short period of time.
To make the long story short, both I and my friend had started growing our own flower gardens, separately, at the same time. We both worked very hard and spent a considerable amount of money to see our gardening projects succeed. But when the time finally arrived to compare which garden looked better, the truth is, my garden didn’t even remotely look as good as that of my friend. But, instead of actually admitting it to him, I just told him that his garden looked good but certainly not as good as my garden.
Anyway, right after failing to reveal the whole truth to my friend about his garden, I felt a bit guilty since I didn’t quite respect his efforts and hard work. Besides, I also felt ashamed of myself and my abilities as I was trying to give myself a “false sense of superiority” over my friends, by hiding the truth from him.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Do you think mutual trust between friends is important?
Absolutely, yes. Trust is the bedrock of any relationship, and a friend that can’t be trusted isn’t really a friend at all.
Personally I tend to trust most people by default, and I’m quick to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but once trust has been eroded it’s exceptionally difficult for it to be regained.
I can’t recall an incident off the top of my head when a friend has been untrustworthy, but I imagine if I were to ever encounter such a situation I’d have to have a little think about what to do. Chances are I’d try to salvage the friendship if possible, but failing that I’d probably stop being friends with them.
I’m not even sure why a friend would suddenly become untrustworthy though.
IELTS Speaking Interview
Do you think people need to tell the truth all the time?
Probably not. There are a few situations I can think of where it’s appropriate to lie, for example organizing a surprise party or to protect someone if their safety is being threatened. But these are more exceptional cases and most of the time I think society functions better when people are honest with each other.
Honesty doesn’t necessarily mean being excessively blunt with someone, and tact usually goes a long way to protecting someone’s feelings when they’re being told something potentially painful. But this doesn’t mean the truth should be sugar coated to such a degree that the core message is lost.
I think the only other situation in which it is okay to lie is during small talk. Most people will reply with a positive response to questions such as “how are you?” even if their answer isn’t true.
Why do children tell lies?
Often to get out of trouble.
Most children know when they’ve done something wrong, and know the consequence for their misdeeds is some form of punishment, which they’d like to avoid at all costs. So they lie.
I remember when I was a kid and hadn’t done my homework for a class. I used a classic excuse and claimed my dog had eaten my homework despite the fact I didn’t even have a dog at the time!
When the school called my parents to find out the truth, my lie was exposed and I was given detention as punishment.
I think it’s easy to detect when most kids are lying, but they don’t have the self awareness to know that most adults can see through them.
