How to Improve Your Speaking for IELTS?

Speaking is a one to one interview between you and examiner and it goes for nearly 10-15 minutes consisting of 3 parts. In IELTS your speaking is judged under these below said 4 criteria and each of them have an equal 25% impact on your scores. If you lack in anyone of them you will straightly lose your bands.

 – Fluency & coherence

Vocabulary

Grammar range and accuracy

Pronunciation

Now, the thing is that nearly every student is not perfect in all of the said criteria so they get worried about IELTS speaking. Especially aspirants from non-English speaking countries face various difficulties regarding the language and they try to learn the language to be fluent and get good bands in it. So here are the some tips to improve Your Speaking for IELTS

Rule #1: Learn phrases

As I said earlier that every student tries to learn English and the process starts by learning vocabulary words. Here I would like to suggest that you should learn phrases instead of individual words. The reason behind this is-

First of all phrases make the speaker sound “natural”. Moreover, individual words have no connections to anything else so they are hard to remember its meaning. Besides, you will not be able to learn any grammar while learning single words. On the other hand if you learn phrases, you will be learning grammar automatically. You also learn which vocabulary words go together naturally and more importantly in what order.

Rule #2 DO NOT try to learn grammar rules:

This thing is bit odd but it is true, grammar rules are too complicated to remember. Have you ever thought how you learnt your mother tongue; have you ever learnt grammar rules for your native language? Your answer must be NO I haven’t learnt anything like this so, why you want to study the grammar rules for English? During writing it’s fine to think about grammar rules, as you have time to write your sentences. In speaking, examiner wants that you should answer immediately and if you take long pause or take too long to think about the grammar rules it breaks the flow and your marks will be deducted.

Rule #3 Listening is the key to fluency.

This is probably the most important rule of all … Learn English with your ears and not with your eyes… i.e. instead of reading a lot of books and other material, LISTEN to as much English as you can. So in order to be fluent so should continue to listen English for several months or longer if possible.

Rule #4 Take the depth knowledge

Everything starts with simple things so as in English. You should start with simple Basic English and practice it again and again until it becomes natural. If you really want to master the speaking English you need to learn and repeat basic sentences and phrases many times. Don’t hesitate to learn a 1000 vocabulary words or 100’s of complicated grammar rules. Stick to the simplest form of English and use it a LOT.

Follow the above 4 rules and you will find a remarkable improvement in your spoken English skills within a short period of time. You will no longer hesitate while speaking and you will learn to speak English naturally… just the way it is meant to be learnt. 🙂

With best wishes!

Thank you 🙂
