A lot of students are confused about the test they should take. They are usually stuck between two options IELTS academic or PTE academic.
It is a difficult task to choose one option among many. And you should choose the best among them as you are investing your time and money into it. IELTS is an international English language Testing System which tests your proficiency in English language. There are three councils which conduct this exam they are, British council, Cambridge English language Assessment and IDP education. You have two variants for the rest, it can be IELTS academic, if you want to study abroad and IELTS general training, if you want to work in abroad.
PTE, Pearson Test of English, is controlled by the company known as GMAC which also conducts the GMAT exams. PTE is also divided into parts, most commonly PTE ACADEMIC and PTE GENERAL, and you can choose your type according to your requirement.

The most important thing is that IELTS and PTE are accepted worldwide but still you should check that the university in which you are applying accepts it or not. In other words, you need to check the English proficiency test that the university accepts in which you are interested in.
Which test is easier?
This is a frequent asked question that which test is easier? This depends upon the person who is taking the test. Some students find IELTS difficult whereas PTE is problematic for some students. It totally depends on your concentration and understanding level. You should evaluate your strong and weak areas before giving the test.
The difference between both the test types is explained below:
IELTS SPEAKING
IELTS speaking is similar to an interview. An examiner is there on the other side of the table, who asks you some questions and you need to answer them confidently. You should be comfortable with the environment and give your best. You should try to have a conversation with the examiner.
PTE SPEAKING
PTE speaking is computer based. In this you talk to a computer. You don’t get hesitated or disturbed from any human in PTE speaking.
IELTS WRITING
In IELTS writing you will have to write two tasks with the help of a pen and a paper. Some students face problems while giving this test because they are sometimes not used to writing on a paper. And if you feel the same you can go with the online based test of IELTS academic.
PTE WRITING
In PTE writing, you have to type the answer with the help of a keyboard into the computer screen. For this test your typing speed should be high and if you are planning to give PTE academic test then you should practice typing first.
IELTS AND PTE READING
In reading module, in both the test types the difficulty level is same only the difference is that in IELTS reading you have hard copy of the test whereas, in PTE reading test, the test is available on the computer.
IELTS LISTENING
In this, you will listen to an audio which will be played only once and you will have to write the answers a paper and at last you will get 10 minutes to transfer your answers to an answer sheet.
PTE LISTENING
The difference in IELTS and PTE LISTENING test is only that in PTE test you will have to type the listening answers and not write them.
The major difference between both these tests is that the IELTS speaking is considered difficult because in this the examiner is sitting physically in front of you. Otherwise, both the tests have their own significance but, IELTS is widely accepted and is flexible.
In PTE there is no Human interference and no chance of any favor or partiality to any candidate.
Moreover, if you are not habitual of writing with a pen and paper then you must go for PTE instead of IELTS because in PTE you have to type your writing Answers and not write.
To conclude, you can get your desired band scores in both the test with proper preparation and guidance. But most of the students feel that PTE is easier than IELTS.
