
VOCABULARY ON LOCATIONS

IN FRONT – The most forward part of something.
Sentence – She sat down in front of her dressing-table mirror to look at herself.

THROUGHOUT – From first to last.
Sentence – She has traveled throughout the world.

INSIDE – Relating to or being on the side closer to the center or within a defined space.
Sentence – He reached into his inside jacket pocket.

BENEATH – In or to a place that is lower.
Sentence – He was pale beneath the golden skin.

OUTSIDE – The region that is outside of something.
Sentence – Outside all was bright, fresh, dewy, and cheerful.

BEYOND – Farther along in space or time or degree.
SENTENCE – Without danger we cannot get beyond danger.

TOP – The upper part of anything.
Sentence – She is already at the top of your class.

ACROSS – To the opposite side.
Sentence – There’s a bank just across the road.

BEHIND – In or to or toward the rear.
Sentence – The sun went behind the clouds.

AROUND – In the area or vicinity
Sentence – Turn around and go back the way you came.

ABOVE – In or to a place that is higher.
Sentence – The water came above our knees.

ALONG – In line with a length or direction.
Sentence – I went to Hill Avenue along with them.

BETWEEN – In the interval.
Sentence – I was sitting between Joe and Andrew.

OFF – From a particular thing or place or position.
Sentence – He went off in a hurry.

UNDER – Below some quantity or limit.
Sentence – A cookie is under the table.

OVER – beyond the top or upper surface or edge.
Sentence – Liza jumped over the wall.

NEAR – Near in time or place or relationship.
Sentence – There is a big park near my home.

RIGHT – Free from error; especially conforming to fact or truth.
Sentence – She thinks that she’s always right.

AT ONE’S BACK – Behind, esp in support or pursuit.
Sentence – I’ve got your back if they ever come bother you again.

TO THE RIGHT – The right side or direction.
Sentence – We live in the last house to the right of Wings street.
