Novice – a person who is not experienced in a job or situation.
Sentence – The terrorized novice promptly returned it, claiming that he was being haunted by apparitions for his act.

Nuance – a very slight difference in appearance, meaning, sound, etc.
Sentence – The sophisticated nuance of a freshly peeled lemon is the hallmark of authentic, cold – pressed lemon oil.

Oblige – to force someone to do something, or to make it necessary for someone to do something.
Sentence – We only went to the party to oblige some old friends who especially asked us to be there.

Oblivious – not conscious of something, especially what is happening around you.
Sentence – Everyone, it seems, is totally oblivious to the subzero temperatures.

Obsolete – not in use any more, having been replaced by something newer and better or more fashionable.
Sentence – The tender loving care of humans will never become obsolete.

Obtainable – to get something, especially by asking for it, buying it, working for it, or producing it from something else.
Sentence – The following passages, taken from well-known or easily obtainable piano music, are suggested as exercises in scoring for string orchestra.

Obtuse – (of an angle) more than 90° and less than 180°.
Sentence – It had strange obtuse teeth, he thought it was part of an old church clock. Very elegant tapered spoke-arms.

Overcome – to defeat or succeed in controlling or dealing with something.
Sentence – I know you will overcome this battle.

Overdo – to do something in a way that is too extreme.
Sentence – Don’t overdo the length of the sequence: two or three minutes should be ample as an opener for your movie.

Panacea – something that will solve all problems.
Sentence – His head ached, the cool air no panacea, and his thoughts, too, were disturbed.

Panic – a sudden strong feeling of fear that prevents reasonable thought and action.
Sentence – The panic rising in his throat threatened to choke him.

Paradigm – a model of something, or a very clear and typical example of something.
Sentence – Thedominant paradigm within class-based urban and regional analysis nevertheless usually recognises the difficulties involved in creating a well-organised international working class.

Perceive – to come to an opinion about something, or have a belief about something.
Sentence – TheConfederate States perceive that they cannot carry all before them with a rush.

Petrify – to frighten someone a lot, especially so that they are unable to move or speak.
Sentence – I stood petrified as the most enormous dog I’ve ever seen came bounding up to me.

Pique – a feeling of anger, especially caused by someone damaging your feeling of being proud of yourself.
Sentence – White Burberry Polo dress from pique with short button placket and capped sleeves.

Plateau – a large flat area of land that is high above sea level.
Sentence – It lay on a narrow plateau above the fens, the houses strung along the northerly of two converging roads.

Platitude – a remark or statement that may be true but is boring and has no meaning because it has been said so many times before.
Sentence – High-sounding jargon or pointless platitudes cut little ice when one is alert to the actual message being conveyed.

Plethora – a very large amount of something, especially a larger amount than you need, want, or can deal with.
Sentence – Most newly-appointed Prime Ministers are embarrassed by a plethora of well-qualified supplicants.

Postulate – to suggest a theory, idea, etc. as a basic principle from which a further idea is formed or developed.
Sentence – It is a crucial postulate underpinning all the social sciences that individuals are related through associations of various kinds.
