5 Tips to score 9 in IELTS Listening Test
After Writing, Listening is considered as the toughest test in IELTS. Even many students find Reading easier than Listening as they feel that in reading text is in front of the student and they can read it many times to search the answer but in Listening the audio clip is played only once and any answer left is left no one can do anything in this. To resolve this case we have 4 Tips to score 9 in IELTS Listening Test.
1. Concentrate – In IELTS listening concentration is must as if get distracted even for a second you can miss the answer. The consequences of distraction are very harmful as if you miss one question and when you will realize it you must have missed couple of more answers. So it is very necessary to get adhered to the audio clip. The main reason of distraction is that many aspirants try to note answers directly on the answer sheet and they get puzzled between question paper, answer sheet and the audio clip so it is highly recommended to note the answers on the question paper itself. You should write the answer quickly as soon as you get it don’t waste your time in writing neatly just note it down. In the end of the test you will have 10 minutes to copy your answers to the answer sheet here you should copy it in a good handwriting.
2. Be accurate
In Listening accuracy is must especially in spellings and you should not misspell any word and if you do so your scores will be deducted. Another thing is to avoid repeating the question. For instance, if the question asks you to complete the phrase “he went to a” and the answer is “house” and you write “a house” it will be considered wrong ignoring that you know the answer. You should enhance your vocabulary as there synonyms are used oftenly.
3. If in doubt, guess
Practice hard to improve your listening skills before booking the exam so that you don’t miss any question anyhow, if you miss any of it go with the guess work as sometimes the guess can also give you score. Another reason for going with the guess work is that there is no negative marking for wrong answers. Secondly, leaving spaces can get you into trouble as you might write a correct answer in the wrong place later.
4. Avoid silly mistakes
To score 9 bands it is mandatory to avoid silly mistakes specially in numbers like zero is pronounced as O in the audio and 77 is said as double 7 similarly We don’t say the numbers one by one, rather we read them in groups of 2 or 3. So 13554684616 would be said “13-double 5 – 468-46-16”.
5. Use capital letters
Although it is not compulsory to write all the words in capital letters but it is recommended to do it. If you write name of a person or place the first letter should be capital but sometime in flow we forget to do so as a result our scores are deducted. If we make a habit to write all letters in capital then this mistake can be avoided.
