TIPS TO ENHANCE LISTENING SCORE
Students lack in IELTS listening module as they don’t get accurate tips to crack the exam. So today we will discuss some tips to enhance listening score.
1. At the beginning of each Part time is given to read the questions for that Part so utilize that time to read the questions carefully, before the recording starts. This will help you to follow the recording and identify the answers easily.
2. Once you finish a part, it is better to read the questions for the next Part than to worry about the last Part and check its answers.
3. Sometimes list of options may be given to you and you have to choose an answer from it. The possible answers will be listed in alphabetical order but keep in mind that it is not necessary that you will hear them in the same order.
4. Read the instructions carefully specially for the word limits. If the instruction says: Write no more than two words, this means your answer should not exceed this limit and if it happens you will receive no marks at all for your answer, even if some of the words were correct.
5. You will not hear the same words as written in the question paper; you will hear synonyms so be alert to hear key words or synonyms from the question to help you identify the answer. For example, in the recording you might hear: “She likes going to the gym and playing tennis”. On your answer sheet, this could appear as “She is an active person.”
6. In the audio you can hear some spelled words which you have to write it down. To do this perfectly, you should have a good knowledge of English alphabet and how each letter is pronounced (for example, the letter ‘W’ is pronounced as ‘double-u’).
7. There are some words like ‘firstly’, ‘my next point’, ‘to sum up’ you should listen them carefully as these words indicate which stage of the recording you are listening. These words will help you identify which question you have reached.
8. Use tick cross technique and cross the answers that don’t fit as the answer. This makes it easier for you to find the right answer.
9. There are several correct ways to write dates as an answer you can write it as (e.g. 28th April, April 28 and 28 April) all these are correct.
10. If you miss any information just leave the question unanswered. There is no need to panic keep yourself calm and move to the next question. Go back to those questions at the end, if you have time.
11. At the end of the exam you will have 10 minutes to copy your answers to answer sheet. So there is no need to write answers straight way in the answer sheet as it may cause distraction. Don’t make the mistake of copying these answers across to their answer sheet in between Parts or you may miss important information about the next Part of the test. Wait until the end of Part 4 before transferring your answers. Some students find part 3 the most difficult to cracking this part can be easier by these tips.
