Timed practice to help prepare better for your IELTS test day

IELTS is the exam which can be cracked with some tips, strategies and above all practice. If the practice is done in the time limits it will prepare you for every circumstance. Time bond practice will be more like real test day preparation and if you prepare with time limits then you can consume more time rechecking your answers and it is not good for the test.

IELTS Timed Tests

There is a stringent time limit for every module of the IELTS and for doing practice in time limit you should be aware of the time given in the real exam. In the table below are the time limits for each module-

ModuleTimingIELTS Progress Check notes
Listening test30 minutesThe extra transfer time of 10 minutes is included in the practice test
Reading test60 minutes1 minute is added to submit your test part
Writing test60 minutes1 minute is added to submit your test part
Speaking test11 – 14 minutes20-30 seconds is allowed to respond to each of the recorded prompts

Why should I time myself?

Now many of you might be thinking it’s only a practice session and why should I take so much stress? If you are thinking like this than you are wrong as when there is a time limit one can get stressed and mind can go blank so it’s better to prepare yourself accordingly. First let’s talk about Reading module if you don’t practice in time limits than you can take more time than allowed and in exam if you do the same than your questions may be left unanswered as you will run out of time.

In writing without time limits you can easily write more than 400 words in an hour so you should keep an eye on the time and notice how many words you can write in the given time. If it is less than you should work on your speed and also check your accuracy.

In speaking specially in cue card you should know how much you can speak in 2 minutes as in exam you don’t get watch to note the time and you have to go with guess work there so it is necessary to practice with time limits.

So, at last I will like to say that you should do time bond practice tests as it will help you in managing time and you will feel less pressured in the real exam. It will also help you to know your weaknesses and you can work on them.

With Best Wishes!

Thank You~~
