Expedition. A journey undertaken for a specific purpose, often exploratory.
Sentence: He was on an expedition to explore the Antarctic.

Voyage. A long journey involving travel by sea or in space.
Sentence: He wrote about his many voyages into the South Seas.

Trek. A long, arduous journey, especially one made on foot.
Sentence: Our car broke down and we had a long trek back to town.
TERMS RELATED TO EXPLORATION

Quest. A long or arduous search for something.
Sentence: In his quest for physical perfection, he spends hours in the gym.

Traverse. To travel across or through terrain.
Sentence: The candidates traversed the state throughout the campaign.

Reconnaissance. A survey or exploration to gather information.
Sentence: I was in the reconnaissance unit, finding enemy positions and calling in air strikes

Itinerary. A planned route or journey.
Sentence: The tour operator will arrange transport and plan your itinerary.
TERMS RELATED TO EXPLORATION

Cartography. The science or practice of drawing maps.
Sentence: She studied cartography in college.

Wayfarer. A person who travels on foot.
Sentence: It was the wayfarer whom we have seen wandering about in search of shelter

Pathfinder. One who finds a way or path, often through unexplored areas.
Sentence: My pathfinder led me through the darkness and into the light.

Inquisition. a period of prolonged and intensive questioning.
Sentence: His political enemies were conducting an inquisition into the details of his personal life.
