Steps to Band 7 in IELTS Writing

IELTS writing task is the toughest one and scoring 7 in it is very hard. To achieve this magic number one need proper guidance from a mentor who can tell the do’s and don’ts and correct you wherever you are wrong. We will discuss some steps that might help you in achieving your goal in writing.

Answer all the parts in the question

In IELTS writing task 2 it is necessary to satisfy the question by answering all the parts asked in the question, for this you should read the statement carefully and understand it so that you don’t skip any part. So it is recommended to follow these steps to get higher scores-

Presenting one view Presenting another view that is contradictory to the first view

Presenting your opinion

Now there are some steps that you should follow

Understand

First thing is to understand the statement to know what exactly it is demanding for. You should know what examiner is expecting you to write in it. For example if it is problem solution then you should write only about both problem and solutions and not indulge other things in it.

Map out ideas

After understanding next step is to map your idea. In this you should note the ideas or points that come in your mind relating to the statement. Then pick the strongest one from them. This will help you to write easily as everything has been visualized in your mind.

Ask yourself questions

If you are lacking from ideas you should ask yourself 5 W’s i.e. why/what/where/who/how and automatically you will get ideas.

Personal opinions

Always try to give your personal views and opinion as this will make your essay unique. To put icing on cake write a relevant example from your personal experience.

Give a clear position

Always give a clear position from start to end of the essay. Don’t change your opinion in the middle of the essay as this will confuse the examiner. So it is necessary to be clear in the whole essay.

Structure your essay

The structure of your essay should also be neat and there should be no mess. It should start from introduction followed by body paragraph 1 and 2 and conclusion at the end. This will make examiner easy to check it.

Use grammatical structures correctly

You should use range of sentence structure accurately and there should be no grammatical errors in it.

Use a good range of vocabulary

Use a good range of vocabulary and try not to use single word again and again instead use synonyms. Even you should avoid spelling mistakes.

Proof Reading

Finish the task at least 5 minutes before so that you can get time to check the whole passage for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. If you do this you will definitely find some mistakes of your own and can save deductions.

With Best Wishes!

Thank You!
