SPEAKING TIPS FOR SCORING 8+ BAND
PART 1: INTRODUCTION AND INTERVIEW
Many aspirants get nervous on seeing the examiner don’t get panic as examiners are also teachers and they understand your psychology and you should feel that you are sitting in front of your own teacher.
The examiner can ask you about any topic like about your
Hometown
Interest or Hobbies
Daily Routine
Places to visit in your country etc.
While answering you should not repeat the question, for example if the examiner asks you What is your favourite food? You should not say My favorite is….. You should say I like…… and then expand your answer. Make sure you use synonyms every time to avoid repetitions of word but if somehow any word doesn’t click you go in the flow with the same word.
PART 2: INDIVIDUAL LONG TURN
The topics on the task card are about a book, film, television programme, clothes, piece of music, object, place you like, special journey, special day, people you like or who have influenced you or a skill you have learned, etc.
First thing to do in the cue card is to make a plan about what you are going to talk for the next 2 minutes. This plan written on the paper will make you adhere to the task response and you will not wander here and there as giving irrelevant answer can cut your marks. Make sure that your answer is to the point and your fluency should also be good because in speaking your fluency and coherence is checked. You should give the answers in a natural tone neither too fast nor too slow as this can be an indication that you have learnt the answer by heart.
PLANNING AND MAKING NOTES
As I have told you to write notes it means NOTES and not the sentences as if you start writing complete sentence you will run out of given 1-minute time. Just write the main points and supporting points for your guidance.
Write the points in a vertical list and in order as It is easier to see them this way. When you start speaking take a look on the paper time to time so that you can organize your answer properly as per your plan. You can also write if any good vocabulary, connecting words or phrases comes in your mind.
ORGANIZATION
In speaking test organization of your answer is very important as it not only improves your fluency but also boost your marks. You should practice to organize your matter by making notes in the given time period and also record yourself when you speak the answers by this you will be able to identify your mistakes.
PART 3: TWO-WAY DISCUSSION
As it is a two-way discussion so you should first listen carefully the examiners question and then give the relevant answer. Try to be fluent and accurate but in case you commit any mistake don’t focus on it go with the flow. You will be asked a variety of questions you should give answers for all of them from the depth and not just the overviews.
PROMPTS TO HELP YOU BEGIN AND DEVELOP YOUR ANSWERS
Many of the test takers feel trouble in expanding the answers as the examiner ask you the general questions or related to our daily life so it’s easy to answer or expand them.
First thing is never use the memorized answers in front of the examiner as it can cut your marks.
Your answer should be relevant and to the point.
If you have not experienced any thing about any topic don’t hesitate to create your story as examiner will not judge whether you are saying truth or lie.
Your answers should be well organized and not scattered. Complete the one point first then move to other one.
Don’t speak too fast or slow go in a natural pitch.
Concentrate on grammar and avoid doing mistakes.
The Examiner might ask a question that changes direction slightly. Follow his/her lead.
