Places Vocabulary
Parliament – in some countries, the group of (usually) elected politicians or other people who make the laws for their country.
Sentence – The Moldavian parliament has declared the elections unconstitutional.
Accommodation – a place to live, work, stay, etc. in.
Sentence – The government will provide temporary accommodation for up to three thousand people.
Local Library – a building, room, or organization that has a collection of books, documents, music, and sometimes things such as tools or artwork, for people to borrow, usually without payment.
Sentence – Our local library, Macdonald Road, Edinburgh, produced a book on fishing that became my firm favourite.
Swimming Pool – an artificial area of water for swimming, or a building containing this.
Sentence – The allure of the moonlit swimming pool proved too much for him.
Cafeteria – a restaurant (often in a factory, a college, or an office building) where people collect food and drink from a serving area and take it to a table themselves after paying for it.

Cottage – a small house, usually in the countryside.

Restaurant – a place where meals are prepared and served to customers.

Bookshop – a shop or website where books are sold.
Sentence – The bookshop has decided to branch out into selling software and electronic publications.
Sports Centre – a building where you can play different sports.
Sentence – The Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre is consisted of a main stadium and an indoor stadium, a natatorium and a tennis court.
City Council – the local government of a city.
Sentence – The city council is encouraging jobsharing to make it easier for parents of young children to work.
Canteen – a place in a factory, office, etc. where food and meals are sold, often at a lower than usual price.
Sentence – Partitions provided a segregation between the smoking and non – smoking areas of the canteen.
Café – a restaurant where simple and usually quite cheap meals are served.
Sentence – The hotel is set on three floors. There’s a bar and cafe at ground level.
Dance Studio – a place where people can go for dance classes.
Sentence – I was the brain and artsy one, who spent more time practicing my scales and arpeggios on our baby grand piano and perfecting pirouettes in the dance studio.
Park – a large area of land with grass and trees, usually surrounded by fences or walls, and specially arranged so that people can walk in it for pleasure or children can play in it.
Sentence – They allowed the children to go to the park.
Kindergarten – the first year of school, for children aged five.
Sentence – Some teachers expect incoming kindergarten children to be able to sit for long periods of time concentrating on workbooks or worksheets.
