HOW TO OVERCOME THE DIFFICULTIES IN THE IELTS LISTENING EXAM
To get a good score in IELTS the aspirant should be well prepared for all the modules Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking as all the modules are different from each other so to tackle them one should have skills. These skills can be developed through proper training and practice. Many people find listening to a nightmare it is because one has to concentrate a lot to solve the questions as we have to listen to the audio clip, read the question and statements and pick the right answer from the clip and note it down on the paper all at the same time.
In this article we will discuss how can we overcome the difficulties in listening exam?
Less Concentration on the Audio: The major reason that listening exam is considered as most difficult by some students that there is no repetition of the audio it neither paused nor replayed so if you miss some information means it’s gone and then you can only make a guess for the answer. Another thing is sometimes students forget the answer as he goes with the flow of the clip to make sure he does not miss any word but unfortunately, he forget the answer to the question in his hand.
The best way out is to first read the instructions then read the questions in the given time between the sections and underline the keywords that you think are important and can help you to find the answers. Once the clip is played start looking at the keywords and listen to the conversation carefully and where you find the same or synonyms for the word collect your answer.
One thing more, if you somehow skip any answer do get adhered to it move on or you will leave some other valuable information as a result you will not be able to answer some other questions.
Spelling Errors and Grammar Mistakes: In IELTS you are not given any number for wrong spellings or incorrect Functional Grammar. So you must check for spelling errors at the end of exam to avoid any deduction in scores.
Copy answers carefully: Sometimes it is seen that test taker copy the answers to answer sheet at wrong place because they left some questions unanswered as a result you get nothing for it. Let me tell you that there is no negative marking in IELTS so you should answer every question if you missed any try some guess work.
Guard Yourself Against Distracters: Listening part consists of many confusing and distracters conversation so to manage this problem you should be alert while listening the clip. In the clip the narrator first give the wrong information then correct himself so you should keep your mind open for the right answer.
Writing and Listening at the Same Time: In the listening section test taker is given 10 minutes to copy the answers to the answer sheet so you should write the answers on the question sheet. This practice will make you more accurate as you will not get distracted while looking at the question paper, writing on the answer sheet, and listening to the clip simultaneously.
Instructions reading: Other important point is many of the students don’t read the instruction given at the starting of every section. This can be harmful for you as if the instruction says not to write more than 2 words and you write 3 you will get nothing for it.
