Strategies to improve your score in IELTS Listening Test
IELTS listening module is the module in which students often get fewer score because you have to do multitasking. In this module as listening to the audio, reading the questions and writing the answers go side by side. This make the module very difficult as if you get distracted even for a second you can lose information from the clip and the clip can neither be paused or restarted it is played only once. So, today in this article we will discuss some Strategies to improve your sore in IELTS Listening Test
Predict the topic-
In IELTS listening you get 30 seconds to read the questions in the end of every part and 30 seconds to check the answers of the previous part which means that you will get 1 minute time to read the questions before starting the part. You must be thinking why should I not check the answers? The thing is that you cannot memorize the clip and without it you will not be able to remember the answers so when there is nothing in your mind what will you check? It’s nothing so it better to utilize the time in reading the upcoming questions.
When you read the question you can make prediction that what type of conversation you are going to hear and can make your mind accordingly. So it’s necessary to go through each part and predict the topic before the audio starts.
Order of the question-
You must notice the order of the questions especially in maps because sometimes it is not the order for example you can find question number 12 on the top of the map but 13 can be in the lower right side of the map. Getting familiar with the question numbers will help you to locate the answers easily.
Be alert-
As mentioned earlier the audio clip is played only once so if you miss any information you will not be able to get it back at any cost. So to avoid this situation it’s better to be alert and focused on your task. In case if you miss any answer don’t get panic and leave the question and at the end of the test just make an educated guess to write the answer.
Underline the keywords-
While reading the questions don’t forget to underline the keywords like names, places and dates. These highlighted words will help you to find the answers easily.
Understand the clip before writing-
Some of the students write the answer as soon as they come across the information related to the question. This is wrong way as many times the narrator change his statement so it’s better to first understand the clip and then write the answer.
Write freely on the question paper-
In listening you should write the answers on the question paper first than transfer it on the answer sheet. Students write the answers on the question sheet very neatly and cleanly as they think that these sheets will also be checked but this is not true. You should use abbreviations and should not worry about the grammar and spellings while writing on the question paper but make sure that you write accurately on the answer sheet.
Don’t panic to see new words –
In IELTS listening you will come across many new words which you should have not even heard about them. You should not get panic to hear or read a new word just try to judge the meaning of the word by listening the clip. Difficult and uncommon words are also spelled so that you can write them down.
