WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF LEXICAL RESOURCE?

IELTS speaking considers 4 parameters to assess one candidate.

Pronunciation

Lexical Resource

Grammatical Range

Fluency

This article will discuss the importance of Lexical Resources. Basically, lexical resource is the parameter which lays emphasis on the range of vocabulary that the candidates use. It is particularly used in two modules, writing and speaking. These two modules are considered to be very essential and productive as you need to use your own ideas and thoughts. It’s somewhat difficult to use vocabulary to create any of your own thoughts. The more you use the vocabulary in your IELTS, the more you gain scores.

Its simple definition in words is vocabulary. Always try the vocabulary which is interesting and uncommon. For example, instead of using “Nowadays”, you can use “In this Cutting-Edge Era”; “For example – To epitome, for instance”. Well, it’s not rocket science. It’s not mandatory that to score higher you need to use only the uncommon or fancy words. You need to understand that its usage should be related to the topic and that would be sufficient.

Know about Lexical Resource

While the examiner checks your task or listens to your speech, they always look at your range and accuracy of the vocabulary you have used and lay focus on how well your vocabulary words help you to express your thoughts. You should keep this in your mind to impress them.

Don’t Repeat

Over usage of the common nouns, verbs, and adjectives. You can lose marks if you repeat or overuse them. If you use basic words like ‘rising’ in one sentence, synonyms of the same words in other sentences with ‘surge’ or ‘burgeoning’. This will impress the examiner and they might give you good scores.

Commonly, there are different synonyms for each word. You can find different and advanced vocabulary related to every word. Your good IELTS score specifically depends on your selection of words.

Rephrase the Statements

It’s always suggested that one should never copy words directly from a task statement. It will give a wrong impression on the examiner. “Don’t be a copy cat, be a whizz kid”, you should reframe the sentence of the task statement and use the appropriate synonyms related to the topic.

Paraphrasing every word: Not an appropriate approach

It’s a reality that one cannot paraphrase each and every word. Although a number of words are there which have synonyms, these substitutes actually don’t mean something exactly like them sometimes, and some of the synonyms don’t give the same essence to the sentence. It’s tricky to use synonyms, so use one when you are sure about them and you know that this will definitely enrich your sentence.

Usage of Collection

The collection is more succinct and also looks natural. It shows your good command of the language.

Master Topic-Related Vocabulary

Candidates using a range of vocabulary show their richness in terms of the words of the particular language. To signify a wide range of vocabulary, you need to know specific topic-related words. Start by learning the basic words that are associated with different fields and industries or technology. This will help you to use appropriate vocabulary related to the connected topic.

Below are some pro tips that would be an asset for your IELTS exam and to score higher:

•Form your own IELTS phrasebook

•Avoid using synonyms, if you are not 100% sure

•Note yourself and create a book with helpful synonyms

•Apply only topic-related words that are advanced

•Use sources such as newspapers, magazines, T.V shows to widen your vocabulary range

•Carefully understand the particular meaning of the word and synonyms
