IELTS WRITING TASK 2 STEP BY STEP APPROACH
Nightmare for many IELTS aspirants is the writing Task 2 i.e. essay. The question says you to write 250 words about the given topic in 40 minutes. In these given limits you have show your knowledge about English language and vocabulary without committing any spelling or grammar mistakes. More your work will be accurate more you will score. So the reason is clear why the students are afraid of Task 2 as one has to write fast with calm mind and that too using vast vocabulary and mistake free.
There are some steps given below which can be followed to get rid of this phobia:
STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
In the introduction paragraph paraphrase the given question in such a way that the sense of the sentence remains the same using different words.
For example if the question is: Music is played in every society and culture in the world today. Some people believe that music brings only benefits to individuals and societies. Others, however, think that music can have a negative influence on both
You can write it as many people view music as a positive influence for societies. They also believe that the influence on individuals is wholly beneficial as it is a long-established way of communicating and helping us to understand the whole range of human emotion and experience in a more spiritual language than words can represent.
Give your opinion
After paraphrasing the question write your opinion about the subject by this the examiner will get an overview of what is to come in the upcoming paragraphs.
Most of the candidates start thinking about most impressive opinion that can impress the examiner and lose their valuable time. In IELTS there is no right or wrong opinion just say what you think is good as the examiner will only check your level in the language.
STEP 2: Support your opinion
After stating your opinion it’s time to support it with some strong points about why you feel that your view is correct. You can start your paragraph with
– Personally, I believe that…
– From my point of view…
– I am convinced that…
– In my opinion…
– In my view…
You can also support your answer with a relevant example and if you do so the chances of getting good score will increase.
STEP 3: Give the other side of the argument
To make your essay a balanced one you should also write something on the opposite side of the argument. This will make your essay balanced and impressive.
You can start this paragraph with phrases such as:
– On the flip side…
– As every coin have two aspects…
– However, there is also another side to this discussion.
– In contrast, some people hold the view that…
STEP 4: Conclusion – Summarize your opinion
At the end comes the conclusion part where you have to summarize your arguments given in the essay or in other words you have to restate your opinion which you have given in the starting of the essay. You should use good vocabulary and add or expand some new arguments in it, but you should not write the same sentences as in the starting.
