Steps to solve One Chart Question in IELTS Writing Task 1
In the Writing task 1 IELTS Academic there are different types of tasks which appear in the exam like Bar Chart, Line Graph, Table, Pie Chart, Process Diagram, Map, Multiple Graphs out of these bar chart or line chart frequently appears in the exam. Further these charts are divided in two variations first is one chart while and the other may have two or more charts. Writing a report for one chart question is quite easy as compared to the other but you will find easy if you follow the Steps to solve One Chart Question in IELTS Writing Task 1 and it will be helpful for great scores.
Step 1: Carefully Read the Question to Write Introduction
The first step to answer any question is to read the question carefully and understand it. You will see that there is a brief statement given with the chart, you should read it carefully as this statement is the only source by which you can write your introduction. To write the intro you can simply paraphrase the given statement you can also use the units and other such additional information written in the diagram. Thus, before writing instruction, give a stare at the chart heading, x-axis and y-axis.
Step 2: Analyze the Diagram to Find Key Features
The other thing that you should have a look at is the key features of the given chart. You should analyze the key features (the most important facts and figures that you can see in the chart). You should mention these features in the IELTS writing task 1 to score high. The main key features in the diagram with only one chart are the highest and lowest figures. You can also mention if you find anything which is similar between two charts. For example, if in the chart there are the two bars and both are at the same level, you can use it as key feature.
Step 3: Body Paragraph
Once when you are done with the introduction and analyzing the key features then it’s time to write the body paragraph. In body paragraph you get the opportunity to write the key features logically with connectives. Here you should also use the appropriate figures as well as units in support of the features you are writing. In IELTS writing task 1 with one chart you should write only one body paragraph as you will not get enough key features to write the second paragraph. Anyhow, if you want to write the second one you have to divide your paragraph.
Step 4: Conclusion
Like any other writing task here also you should write conclusion at the end of the task. In it you should write the main conclusive feature of the chart. Conclusion is always short and should not be more than 2-3 lines or it will look like body paragraph. For writing an impressive conclusion you may adopt a tip, just look at the main feature of the diagram and pen it down. For example, if in the bar chart you see a big bar and a small bar that look as the major attraction of the chart and hence, you may write about them in the conclusion.
