ABRADE – Wear away.
Sentence – Much of the skin on her arm was abraded.

ACQUIT – Free from a criminal charge by a verdict of not guilty.

CLANDESTINE – Keep secret or done secretively, especially because illicit.

CUMBERSOME – Heavy or large and therefore difficult to carry or use.

DEBILITY – Physical weakness, especially as a result of illness.

FORMIDABLE – Overwhelming, alarming, dreadful.

FORSAKE – To abandon.

HAUGHTY – Having or showing arrogant superiority.
Sentence – All his sudden riches and fame made him naughty.

HOVERED – Remain in one place in the air.
Sentence – She hovered over kid all the way to the door and then opened it for her.

CALLOUS – Insensitive.
Sentence – The man who stole from the poor was a callous thief.

INCORRIGIBLE – Not able to be changed or reformed.
Sentence – Then her teacher calls her an incorrigible little sermonizer, and she laughs at herself.

ELUCIDATE – To make clear.
Sentence – She gave a one-word answer and refused to elucidate any further.

FASTIDIOUS – Careful in all details, meticulous.
Sentence – Everything was planned in fastidious detail.

ZENITH – The highest point that the sun or moon reaches in the sky, directly above you.
Sentence – The sun rose towards its zenith.

ROGUE – A dishonest or unprincipled person.
Sentence – He went rogue and helped Katie evade you in the underworld.

MONOTONY – A situation in which something stays the same and is therefore boring.
Sentence – The monotony of motorway driving can cause accidents.

ZANY – Silly, Crazy.
Sentence – The comic is entertaining the world with his zany out of the box routine.

Wretchedness – Extreme misery or unhappiness.
Sentence – I feel really confused and wretched.

RELIANT – Having or showing dependence on something.
Sentence – The ill patient was reliant on his wife for all his medical care.

WRY – Using or expressing dry, especially mocking, humour.
Sentence – He gazed up at her with a wry smile.

ENCOMPASS – Surround and have or hold within.
Sentence – She knelt in front of him and stood on her knees, lifting her arms to encompass his neck.
